  • John Green, Walt Whitman, and a World of Wonder

    Funded Dec 19, 2014

Thank you for your generosity towards my classroom. Paper Towns, along with leaves of the grass, paints an American landscape in all its beauty and frailties. This is a unique opportunity you have provided for students to not only examine our country, but also their own dreams of who they want to be in the world they are about to enter. Your belief in my students and my teaching practice truly blows me away. The only way I know to repay you is by passionately teaching these works. You have my promise on this.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Baer

  • A Colorful Printer For Creative Students

    Funded Nov 16, 2014

Thank you so much for helping my classroom with this color printer. Currently we are working on two projects that involve a lot of creativity and this is a big step in helping students bring their work to fruition. Already today, students were imagining the possibilities now that they have this tool. Your gift not only will help students improve upon their work, but also gives them proof that others believe in them and their futures. I can't wait to see the magic my students will be producing this next year and into the future.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Baer

  • Young Adult Books That Captures Kids' Hearts

    Funded Nov 3, 2014

Thank you so much for believing in my students, myself and the power independent reading. I do not exaggerate when I write that I've seen the transformative power of finding the right book for a student and seeing them over a school year become readers, and hopefully lifelong readers. Please know that your donation will almost immediately be placed in the hands of student who will find universal truths, discover who they are, who they want to be and eventually the world they want to make better.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Baer

  • Reading Malcolm Gladwell's Outliers--Inspiring Seniors

    Funded Oct 20, 2014

Thank you so much for your generosity. My students are extremely excited about reading Outliers and learning about possible paths of success. We will be reading this book as we explore the American dream and look at the tools that are necessary to achieve this dream. My students are at a point in their lives where they are wondering what path they will take, what career choices they will make and how their long term and short term goals are going to to effect the rest of their lives. Outliers gives my students a tool to begin this journey.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Baer

  • Books That Turn Struggling Readers Into Voracious Readers

    Funded Sep 15, 2014

Thank you so much for your gift to my classroom. These are highly accessible books that students are already fighting over. The power of putting good books into students hands is priceless. Already students have started a list of who is up next to read the books.

Your donation proves to my students that there are others out there who believe in them. The power of literacy will bring these young men and women one step closer to achieving their dreams of attending college and becoming successful in their endeavors.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Baer

  • Notebooks For Writers Workshop

    Funded May 28, 2014

Thank you so much for finding it in your heart to give to my students and the project I submitted. Having a place to write in that children can call their is essential if they are going to envision and call themselves writers. It has only been three weeks, and already I have witnessed the pride students have in their notebooks and the creativity they are now allowing themselves as they explore their world. It is so important for students to know that others believe in them. In fact, if we want them to be successful, I believe there is nothing more important.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Baer

  • Books That Change Students' Lives

    Funded Mar 31, 2014

Thank you so much for supporting my students. I promise you that these will be books that will be loved and will assist them in becoming life-long learners. I have seen, personally, that books can change lives.

It's so important that my students know that others believe in them and their dreams. So much of the time, in this age of test scores, reading for pleasure is discounted as something there is no time for. Your generosity proves that there are still people and organizations that believe in the power of reading for pleasure.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Baer

  • Books Reluctant Readers Love

    Funded Jul 17, 2013

Thank you so much for your gift and understanding the impact of a good book on students. Many of these books have already been checked out a few times and I suspect that will continue. In a time when many in education feel that independent reading is no longer valued, I am so grateful that there are still believers. I have seen repeatedly throughout my years teaching students lives changing all from the power of one book. Please know that your gift will continue for a long time to serve my students.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Baer

  • Seniors in Need of AP Books

    Funded Dec 1, 2012

Thank you so much for your donation that has allowed my students to read "How to Read Literature Like a Professor." Many of my student are already calling this the most essential book for their studies in AP, and discussing how the way they analyze literature has been for ever changed, for the better. One student said to me today, "the only problem with this book is that we should have read it a long time ago." Your support has made an indelible stamp upon my students that I truly believe will lead to much of the their academic success.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Baer

In my California public school, children from 30 different countries converge in one classroom, sort of like a mini United Nations. Some escaped from war torn countries, natural disasters, and famine. Others are here because their parents found work. The rest are natives from the inner city who are learning to count their blessings. All are learning from the diverse cultures, and in the end they find they have more in common than not.
