STEAM Powered Library
Funded Apr 15, 2016Greetings, Donors!
I am so happy to report that together, we are building the most amazing classroom library! We are well into the new year, which means the second group of students already has access to these books... In other words, you've reached over 120 students with your donation of highly engaging STEM books for our classroom library. Students are researching, making, tinkering, exploring, and asking great questions as a result of these books.
I'm so thankful that we are able to collaborate, and that, like me, you believe that my students deserve nothing less than the best.”
With gratitude,
Mr. Zimmermann

Funded May 5, 2016There are so many things we could say, but most of all, we want to tell you: WE LOVE THE BOOKS YOU GAVE OUR CLASSROOM!
They are interesting, informative, and beautiful to look at. We are excited to have these new additions to our classroom library, and we are so excited to use them for our research and also just to enjoy reading about science during the school day. The books you have given us have shown us that we can learn so much from books (not just chapter books.) The books you donated show us how things work, what things are made of, and help us see beyond our school and our city, and into our fascinating world!”
With gratitude,
Mr. Zimmermann

Funded Dec 4, 2015Gratitude means to be mindful of that which one can easily take for granted. I try to make sure my students reflect on this, because even as our school lacks resources, we have so much that others do not have. My gratitude leads me to you, as you have made selfless contributions to provide my classroom, my students, with simple things like containers to organize our classroom.
You've kept our coats organized through the winter. You've contained soil and compost for our classroom garden. You've given classroom snacks a place to live in our room.
These simple things cannot come from thin air, and I have no doubt that you've made these contributions because you understand the value of gratitude.
You are changing the possibilities in my classroom, and I choose to believe that means you are changing the world.”

Funded Dec 3, 2015There's something magical about music education, and its not just about kids carrying a tune. When students are given a chance to express themselves through music, it changes their whole academic experience. Kids begin to see themselves as members of a school community that embraces their creative side, in concert with their academics.
That is what this project was all about- giving students a chance to see the fun in school and the school in fun- all through music.
I am so fortunate that I am in a position to connect your generosity with my students' curiosity.”

Blended Learning Is Better Learning!
Funded Oct 16, 2015Friends and supporters of education, you have changed my students lives. Sounds outrageous, but you actually have. Students need to be prepared for a world that requires technological literacy to be successful, so by giving them access to that technology, you have made a contribution that will actually change the narrative of their lives.
I am so thankful that there are people out there, like you, who recognize this, and who are willing to take a moment out of their day, a few dollars out of their paycheck, to get students who need it they education they deserve.
What I want you to know is that not only do these students deserve it, they appreciate it. The headphones from this grant are used everyday to let students learn at their own pace. They are a huge asset to out classroom. We appreciate you.”

Mr. Zimmermann
Help us Change the Game with Personalized Learning!
Funded Jan 21, 2016We are so excited!
We love our classroom and our school, but what we love most about coming to school is that this year, we are learning in a way that is really special!
We use technology everyday to learn at our own pace, to work through projects and assessments that our teachers create for us. However, we've learned through this project that this kind of learning is expensive and, in our school, requires some outside help.
We are so thankful for people like you, who make learning interesting and fun, and help us get what we need to succeed! Thank you for you generosity, and for making technology available in our classroom.”

Funded Oct 15, 2015It is my personal and professional belief that when students have the resources they need, they thrive. Mentored is an organization that not only understands this but has given so many students, including my own students greater access to what they need most: someone to guide them through the challenging, though rewarding, learning process.
Mentored, without a doubt, is capable of making great strides towards the goal of leveling the playing field of learning, and the generous donation that Mentored has made to make this resource available to my students is certainly evidence of this.
I am so thrilled to see my students succeed, and I am thankful that mentored has become one of the tools we use to help them achieve that goal.”

Help us go 1-to-1! 7th Graders Need Personalized Learning!
Funded Oct 2, 2015I don't need to tell you that computers are changing education from the ground up. I don't need to tell you that these six Chromebooks are a key to my students' success- because you know this already, which is why you decided donate to this project. But I do have to THANK you, because these computers have made an astounding change in my classroom, and will continue to. By giving students in a low income environments computers, we give them access to the world, to opportunities that are limitless. I really believe this, and with this in mind, I cannot thank you enough for being the agents of change in these kids' lives. You are all inspiring people to me, and remind me that it always "takes a village" to make a simple change happen.”

Mr. Zimmermann

Funded Apr 13, 2015If you didn't know this already, your donations to projects like this one make a huge difference for kids who really need it. We are able to work our way through the difficult year of 7th grade without having to think about whether there will be enough paper for our projects, markers to express our thoughts, or other basic supplies that many classrooms like mine struggle to sustain access to. It might not seem like much, but I personally believe that you are making an even bigger statement by donating to this project: that you believe in the value of education for all and understand that it is a materials-intensive process.
Thank you, thank you, thank you.”

Make Us Makers! 3D Printing to Better Our School Environment
Funded Apr 13, 2015I must say, I am excited to report to you that the materials you provided to our classroom made for and continue to make for some very exciting and engaging maker projects. Last year, students used the 3D printing supplies to design solutions to school problems, such as new lids for recycling bins that discourage the mixing of recyclables with garbage. This kind of experience is so valuable, that they see in themselves the ability to identify problems in the world and work toward solutions using reasoning through quantitative and scientific methods. I am impressed with the ingenuity of my 7th graders every day and I am glad that others can share in my enthusiasm for this type of learning.”

Mr. Zimmermann
