  • Mat Tape for Safe Wrestling!

    Funded Dec 2, 2024

On behalf of our wrestling team, I want to extend our heartfelt thanks for your generous donation of wrestling mat tape. While it might seem like a small detail to some, this essential contribution plays a vital role in ensuring the safety and functionality of our mats, and by extension, the well-being of our athletes.

Your donation allows us to keep our wrestling mats securely together, providing a stable and safe surface for our athletes to train and compete. Properly maintained mats not only enhance the quality of practice but also help prevent injuries, ensuring our team can focus on improving their skills and reaching their goals.

The tape has already made a noticeable difference in our training sessions. Our wrestlers appreciate the smooth, professional setup that keeps the mats intact and secure. It's incredible how such a practical item can have such a significant impact on the effectiveness of our program.

Your generosity is a reminder of the incredible support our team has from people like you, who understand the importance of even the smallest details in achieving success. It's contributions like yours that inspire us to work harder, dream bigger, and strive for excellence both on and off the mat.

Thank you once again for your thoughtful donation. Please know that your support is appreciated by everyone involved in our program, and we look forward to sharing updates on how your kindness has contributed to our team's progress and achievements.

    With sincere gratitude,”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Wozniak

  • Wrestling Mats for a Brand-New Wrestling Team!

    Funded Nov 24, 2024

n behalf of our wrestling team, I want to extend my deepest gratitude for your generous donation of wrestling mats. Your support means more than words can express, and it has already begun to make a profound impact on our athletes and program.

These mats are more than just equipment; they represent opportunity. They provide a safe, professional space for our wrestlers to train, learn, and grow. For many of our athletes, wrestling is not only a sport but a source of discipline, confidence, and community. Your contribution ensures that they have the tools they need to strive for excellence and reach their full potential.

Since receiving the mats, we have seen a renewed sense of energy and enthusiasm among the team. Practices have become more productive, and the athletes take pride in having a space that reflects their commitment to the sport. These mats will be used for countless hours of hard work, dedication, and team bonding—and they will undoubtedly play a role in shaping the future successes of our wrestlers both on and off the mat.

Your generosity also sends a powerful message to our team: that their efforts are valued and that there are people who believe in their potential. It inspires them to give their best, knowing they are supported by a caring community.

Thank you for investing in the future of our athletes. We are excited to keep you updated on the milestones and achievements made possible by your donation. Please know that your kindness will leave a lasting legacy for years to come.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Wozniak

  • Wrestling Equipment for a Young, Eager Team!

    Funded Feb 4, 2024

Thanks for your donations! With the $, we purchased mat tape! Mat tape is used to join mats together -- if they part, the concrete underneath is exposed, and knees and heads are liable to be injured. The mat tape keeps the mats safely together, and our wrestlers' bodies protected.

This "season" has been the best one ever. There has been more focus and energy in the wrestling room than ever before.

Just last week, we traveled for our first-ever "dual meet" against a different school! We are still amateurs, but we did better than expected! The students left with renewed excitement for the sport.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Wozniak

  • Wrestling in Las Vegas!

    Funded May 11, 2022

I am so grateful for your generous donations.

Our wrestling club started— I'm not kidding— in the field. We kicked a circle with our heels in the dust and "wrestled" there.

Soon thereafter, we had one mat, and then two.

But when our wrestling club ballooned 300%, we desperately needed many mats, and quickly.

    And you came through!

Thank you for providing the opportunity to 30-or-so young people to learn the noble sport of wrestling! We've come a long way from wrestling in the dirt! Thanks to you!”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Wozniak

  • Inspire Our Future!

    Funded Oct 20, 2021

I am so grateful for the selection of science fiction books! This selection will help my students experience some of the best science fiction authors: from Octavia Butler to Ted Chiang.

I have themed this year "Future!!" because my seniors are embarking on their own futures. They have special anxieties about their futures because the pandemic has rendered planning fruitless and made us all subject to forces beyond our control. By reading these sci-fi books, I hope to empower my seniors to face their futures boldly. Indeed, to MAKE their futures.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Wozniak

  • Getting into "The Reading Zone"!

    Funded May 24, 2016

    Dear Donors:

In his book _The Power of Reading_, UCLA researcher Stephen Krashen points to research that "Children from high-income families are 'deluged' with books; children from low-income families must 'aggressively and persistently seek them out.'" Furthermore, "classroom and school libraries in high-income area schools are more likely to have what children want to read."

The 100+ books purchased by your donations have put high-interest books in the hands of low-income students. This is a big deal. And the impact has been huge! In our last reading survey, 91% of my 7th graders "agreed" or "strongly agreed" with the statement, "You like to read a book whenever you have free time." 91% "get really excited about the books you have read." 0% (!) thought "reading was a waste of time." A whopping 99% agreed that they can get into The Reading Zone. Almost 75% of students read "more" or "much more" than they did last year. This is all thanks to YOU, because reading enthusiasm is directly related to book access. As Stephen Krashen writes, "Often, those who 'hate to read' simply do not have access to books."

    I cannot thank you enough!”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Wozniak

I work at a charter school that was founded within the last 3-ish years. Currently, the "library" is a shelf half-filled with secondhand thrift shop books. I am hoping to raise money to buy 100-or-so books (chosen from the American Library Association's "Quick Picks for Reluctant Young Adult Leaders") to furnish my classroom library. This library will be crucial in helping me to implement Nancie Atwell's Reading Workshop, which in turn will help create joyful, life-long readers. Reading researchers like Nancie Atwell, Donalyn Miller, Stephen Krashen, and Alfie Kohn have argued forcefully for allowing students the ability to choose the books they read. The secondhand, throwaway books currently in the library have very little appeal to my students. These selected books, strategically chosen for their proven track-record with reluctant readers, will give my students a wide variety of book choices to begin to develop their own reading preferences and identities as life-long readers.
