  • Toning Up Our Thinking!

    Funded Oct 24, 2019

My students and I are so incredibly grateful for your kind contribution to our classroom. At first glance, printer ink may not seem like the most glamorous or exciting donation to a classroom. However, the majority of my students do not have access to a printer or ink, so printing their projects for school becomes a burden that can cause stress and anxiety.

Thanks to your generosity, my students can come into my room at anytime and print their work for any of their classes. The levels of stress have decreased dramatically and I see smiling faces as their work comes our of our printer.

You have set such a wonderful example for these young adults. I couldn't be more grateful. I wish you all the happiest of New Years!”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Wiley

  • Building Life-Long Readers in Brooklyn

    Funded Aug 13, 2019

I can't even begin to tell you how grateful my classes are for your incredibly generous contributions. These books have already opened up magical worlds for my readers. To hold a brand new book in one's hand is a luxury for many of my students, and these young readers are loving these books.

I always try to inspire my students to be kind and generous, even when they may not have much to give. We can always give a kind word, or a smile. Your gifts have proven that generosity truly makes the heart sing, for my 8th graders smile ear to ear when they open one of your books!

Thank you so very much. I promise you have made an incredible difference!”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Wiley

  • Toning Up Our Thinking With TONER!

    Funded Apr 13, 2019

This project might seem unexciting to many, as I was simply requesting toner for our classroom printer. I must tell you, however, that your generosity has already had an incredible impact on my students. So many do not have the ability to print at home, so with this toner they can print their assignments and projects in my classroom with no worries whatsoever.

The fact that you donated to our classroom is something we are aware of each and every day, as every day my students are able to print without worry or anxiety.

I can't even begin to tell you how grateful I am.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Wiley

  • Heroism & Humanity: Anne Frank in a Brooklyn Classroom

    Funded Jul 26, 2018

I am so looking forward to finishing the Anne Frank play with my students! It is so important that students understand the impact of racism and bigotry on society and individuals. Anne Frank has already had a major impact on these young readers. They are so moved by the fact that a real person, who was also their age. Many have to be continually reminded that this is an absolutely true first hand account.

For struggling readers, the play version which you provided us is essential to help everyone comprehend the beautiful and dramatic story.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Wiley

  • Paper and Ink Help Us Show What We Think!

    Funded Aug 22, 2018

How can I share with you the heartfelt gratitude that my students and I feel for your generosity and thoughtfulness? Students are absolutely immersed in technology today, and use technology to do their homework, projects and class work. They love doing their work in this manner. Many students, however, simply do not have the means to print the work they do at home and in class. I am fortunate enough to have a printer in my room. What we consistently lack is toner and paper. The fact that you provided these items for my students has been monumental. Students are revising their writing, printing drafts and final pieces right in our classroom. Many students have used the supplies to create multi-faceted projects. The freedom that you have given to these young learners is monumental.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Wiley

  • Showing Empathy with Holocaust Literature

    Funded Mar 20, 2018

Thank you so much for contributing these magazines to my classroom. Without a doubt, the impact of these materials has been incredible. In teaching holocaust literature to 8th graders, it is often difficult for them to contextualize the complexities and the horrors of that time period and the events that occurred.

The magazines you purchased provided succinct and meaningful background information, as well as age-appropriate photographs, maps and charts. This information and resources proved invaluable in helping my students contextualize the material they were reading.

My students got experience reading a variety of texts on one topic, and were able to read fiction, nonfiction, and informational pieces all related to our overall topic. Furthermore, the magazines you provided were colorful and engaging.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Wiley

  • Exploring Empathy Through "Death Be Not Proud"

    Funded Aug 11, 2017

How do I describe the impact of your generosity on my 8th grade students? I have wanted to introduce this book to my students for years, as I remember the impact the piece had on me as a young reader.

This is clearly a challenging work, but my advanced readers have really grasped this book, and have become emotionally attached to Johnny's story. While the vocabulary and content are really tough, everyday I see the students persevere in order to move through the book.

Books, as we know, are not inexpensive and are not always accessible to young people. Often, they don't even know what books to choose. I thank you so much for your thoughtfulness and generosity, and please know that you have had an indelible impact on scores of young readers.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Wiley

My students are 8th graders in Brooklyn, NY. They come from a diverse community and many come from homes where English is not the first language. They are very enthusiastic about my class, yet need real support and resources in order to engage with meaningful books and literature. The interest is indeed there--but the resources are not. I do my best to supply them with as many books, paper and supplies as possible, but it isn't always easy!
