ESL Video Studio! Learning ESL through Cinema!
Funded Sep 9, 2013So far, this has been an incredible experience for all of us. We have produced 3 videos so far. I have produced 2 with my first and second graders and 1 with my third, fourth, and fifth graders. My younger group produced a newscast about the rules of making a noun plural, as well as a game show about nouns: common noun or proper noun. My older group produced a newscast based on the first chapter of the book that we are currently reading. The children have worked in many areas of production: camera operation, sound monitoring, acting, directing. They have learned key terms about film/video production. They have learned about chroma key technology and the editing process.... and we're only in October. This project has opened their eyes about how film and television are produced. They have also been practicing lines about and listening to the rules of grammar. They have been writing lines and reading cue cards. They have been enunciating and learning discipline by standing on their marks and delivering their lines. I can go on and on about the benefits of this project, but most of all, they are enthusiastic about coming to class and learning.
Thank you so much. We appreciate your support and will continue to use this equipment with you all in our thoughts and hearts.”
With gratitude,
Mr. Taruskin

Funded Apr 24, 2013I just wanted to let everyone know how the microphones you've given us have impacted our performance. First of all, all of the students were so excited when they arrived! They have breathed new life into our musical. They were a game changer. Now, every line is heard throughout the entire auditorium! We have rehearsed with them several times and now the students have adjusted to them and know how to use them. This is a relief to all of us. Thank you.
If you work at the school, feel free to stop by during our rehearsals to see how we sound. Before the microphones, the dialogue, and even some of the singing, would get lost a few rows from the stage. Now, you can come in and sit down in the back of the auditorium and enjoy all of the lines and lyrics. Your generosity has improved our show immensely.”

Funded Apr 20, 2011WOW! I can't believe we did it. Thank you so much!!!!!! This gift will help my students focus on something that is pure, technical, and fun: MUSIC! It will improve my students' concentration and patience. It will motivate my students to come to school.Without your help, this would never have happened. Further thank-yous will be coming your way, but for the time being, just know that this means more to my students than you will ever imagine. ”
With gratitude,
Mr. Taruskin
