Sports Equipment for Tuesday Movement
Funded Mar 1, 2019Most of my students live in small, very run down, apartments with a couple families sharing one unit. Their parents are new to the country and are protective of their children so they keep them inside. The only opportunity my students get to relax and play with one another is at school. Unfortunately, I have found they don't know how to do this. Unsupervised, outside time such as recess, ended up with hurt feelings and fighting. So I have one day a week (Tuesday) where we go outside during class time, and I let them make up games or I have a game with clear rules.
It is such a blessing to hear them laughing and having fun. This year the hula hoops were the most coveted item. Many of my special needs students were successful at it whereas, previously they just sat on the bench while the other kids chased one another. Due to your generous donation, my students actually started playing and complimenting each other. They made up a ring toss game where they had to throw the hoop over the tetherball pole and they hooked the rings around one another and tried to work together around an obstacle course.
Another surprise was we had much fun playing baseball. There was a soft bat and ball. Many of my students had never played baseball much less swung a bat. I was reluctant but they pleaded and the last week of school we played baseball everyday. Then some of my Middle Eastern kids tried to teach us Cricket. Great Way to end the year. I will continue this next year. Thank You so Much!!”

Funded Apr 2, 2019Thank You so much for allowing my students to access their curriculum via a Chromebook. Many of my students only have internet access here at school. You have opened up many opportunities for us. I plan to use computers to assist my newcomer students to learn english. Thanks again for your generosity. It is greatly appreciated!”
