  • Help Our Students Ink Their Success!

    Funded Aug 17, 2019

In less time than it takes to learn all my students names (and that's a priority for me), you have generously funded our project for the sixth grade's printer cartridges. This should last us the next two years.

Our students will be able to get their essays, worksheets, projects and other materials printed.

We have six words to say:

Thank you, thank you, thank you!”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Schorn

  • Help Our Students Ink Their Success!

    Funded Oct 6, 2017

I am deeply thankful for your generosity. Never would I imagine such a quick and full-voiced support of our students' needs for basic supplies.

We are excited and looking forward to again being able to print out students' documents, essays and other work.

I can't wait to let my students and colleagues know the good news of your fully funding this project!

    Many thanks, I remain”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Schorn

  • It's a Print!

    Funded Sep 16, 2016

We are deeply grateful to the impact your donation has had on us. Your generosity has allowed our students to create any number of presentations, reports and essays.

As you know, students work best when they are motivated, and allowed to manifest their own creativity. We have seen any number of superior creative works written and shared by our students across the various subject areas.

We have seen students step away from worksheets, textbooks and formulaic structured texts to be creative thinkers, problem solvers and writers. This is the heart of what we want our students to become: creative independent thinkers and problem solvers.

Your generosity has made that happen, time and time again.

Many thanks from me and from my students!”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Schorn

  • Exploring Patterns And Symbols Through "Chasing Vermeer"

    Funded Aug 28, 2012

Thank you so very much for making a reality of my project to merge teaching math with literacy through the book "Chasing Vermeer". We're going to begin classes this week, so it already makes me so excited to be able to offer challenge and fun to my middle school students. I've received positive feedback from our school's administration about the project (and the fact that you have saved us money!)

I'm looking forward to beginning the project, and letting you know how well it has gone.

Again, thanks for helping get our school year off to a great start!”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Schorn

My 6th and 7th grade students come from challenged urban neighborhoods in northern Brooklyn such as East Williamsburg and Bushwick. Most students' family situations qualify them for Title I funding and free school lunches. My students love puzzles and games; our school has award-winning programs in chess as well as baseball. They are great kids who learn best when they get a chance to be creative. But young people don't read enough. This will be a fun and hopefully painless way to both increase their literary and math skills.
