Hands-on Exploration of Mass, Density, and Volume
Funded Aug 23, 2022Thank you for your generous donations to help fund our project. Students were able to "DO" science instead of simply "READING" about it. We have many more activities planned that will utilize the measuring containers during our second semester.
Students also genuinely appreciated receiving the supplies and materials. Several students commented on how nice it was to have an appropriate measuring container instead of the crudely calibrated 5 gallon buckets we had previously used.
While there were a few other items the project provided, we have not progressed into that particular unit as of yet. Once we put them to work, I will snap some photos and post them here for everyone to see.”

Funded Mar 19, 2020I apologize for the length of time it's taken to provide you with an update for your generous monetary donation. The pandemic really turned education upside down for quite some time. However we're officially 100% back in person and have returned to providing a quality education.
The HP color laser printer you helped purchase if in full use and has absolutely made an impact for all my classes. There's something unique about having the ability to print an instant full color photograph for students to further analyze their lab data.
The printer gets used on a daily basis for not only my classes, but other classes as well. Word is out in the halls!
Thank you again for helping support public education and my classes here at Millennium High School.”

Color Evidence - Crime Scene Processing
Funded Oct 2, 2018Thank you for your generous donations so that my class was able to purchase a color laser printer. Having it available has allowed my students to print their lab reports in color and document crime scenes more appropriately.
The HP LaserJet CP5225 color printer is available for all students to use and gets utilized each and every day. It's not uncommon to have students and teachers from other classes come down to print off color documents and photos.
One side benefit of having it in the classroom is the ability to print off photos of students in action. Once I started printing and hanging photos of students engaged in lab activities and working on assigned projects, it seemed to motivate them to stay on task.
If you walk into our forensic science classroom, you will immediately see the benefits of having the color printer available.”

Funded Dec 18, 2015Thank you again for your generous donations to Donor's Choose and ultimately my forensic science classroom. The equipment arrived and has made a huge impact on my students' learning. Using the drone allows them to gather yet another unique perspective to help document their crime scenes.
Students recently used it to capture photographs of a horse we are decomposing out in the desert next to the school. At one point somebody or something moved the horse and we used the drone to locate it about a block east of its initial spot.
Another use for the drone was to document some vandalism here at the high school. One evening somebody drove a vehicle onto one of our sports fields and severely damaged the turf. Working with the local police department, students used the drone to take photos of the damage from the sky. These photos were forwarded on to the police department and are now considered evidence for the crime investigation.”

Classroom Digital Projector
Funded Jun 1, 2012Thank you again for your generous donations that provided for the digital projector&iPad accessories. I'm pleased to announce I immediately began using these items the day they arrived here in the classroom.
Just yesterday my students completed a guided-lab where they used microscopes to isolate and study cells from various living organisms. Using my classroom iPad, I took photos of some of the better examples and projected them on the front whiteboard for others to see. Without the new digital projector, I would not have been able to provide these examples for my students. I used the iPad accessories to download the photos from the iPad.
Your donations truly made a difference here in our classroom. I'm grateful for the support and encourage you to spread the word about the Donor's Choose program.”

Graphical Analysis For Physics Students
Funded Jan 4, 2011Our HP LaserJet Pro CM1415 and replacement toners arrived within one week of the project becoming fully funded. I was absolutely amazed at the speed in which Donors Choose processed our project order. My students and I are thrilled to be able to print in the classroom. This has already saved so much time from having to walk the 100 yards to the nearest printer.
Once the HP printer arrived, I quickly implemented it into our existing curriculum. Students almost immediately began printing graphs, current event assignments and classroom lab photos. It also scans and photocopies which is a time saver too. Today my students used the laser printer to produce "evidence" of electrical ratings for various pieces of office equipment. In teams of 5, students traveled around our school campus and snapped photos of devices plugged into the school's power grid. Students were required to report back with the following pieces of electrical information in their photos: Volts, amps and watts.
After students captured this information, I allowed them to print 2 of their digital photos on the classroom printer. If their photos showed only volts and watts, students were required to mathematically derive the device's amps off to the side of the picture.
Thank you again for making this project request a success. While this was our first major adventure with the printer, I assure you it will not be the last!”

Digital Cameras to Document Science Investigations
Funded Dec 24, 2010Our 5 Canon Powershot A495 digital cameras arrived with two weeks of the project becoming fully funded. Receiving them in the mail was a true blessing as our old ones were barely clinging to life after 7 years of rigorous use. The new cameras take amazing photos with their 10 mega pixels lenses, are simple to use and are much smaller and sturdy than our previous ones.
Once the cameras arrived, I immediately implemented them with my physics students. Since we are exploring electricity concepts, I challenged students to search out power ratings on school equipment. In teams of 5, students traveled around our campus and snapped photos of devices plugged into the power grid. Students had to report back with the following pieces of electrical information in their photos: Volts, amps and watts.
After students captured this information, I allowed them to print their digital photos on our classroom laser printer. If their photos showed only volts and amps, students were required to mathematically derive the device's watts.
Thank you again for making this project a success. While this was our first adventure with the digital cameras, I assure you it is not our last!”
