With four strings, ukuleles can be used to help in teaching chords, but is not as intimidating as a guitar with six strings. With my students being younger their hands are not fully grown holding a guitar and being able to reach the correct strings would be difficult. A keyboard is nice to teach chords, but being so large it is hard to fit 20 in a classroom, and is impossible for the students to take home and practice. Ukuleles are an instrument that most students are eager to learn and get excited when I use my ukulele to play along while we sing our songs.
