Our school has a diverse population with a large majority of families on free and reduced lunch. The kids that come to my class want to participate and make music but very few of them have the resources to buy instruments or music accessories. The band room becomes a second home; a sanctuary from the rowdy behaviors that can be found in other classes and in the halls. Provided with the right materials and guidance, students who would never be able to afford music lessons are safe to express themselves in band.
