  • Take Your Seat

    Funded Mar 12, 2021

Due to the current health regulations due to Covid 19, I had not been able to use the donated mats in my classroom. However, now that half of my students have returned to in-person instruction, my students have been able to put them to use.

They each have their own mat and they use them when we do certain group activities. They have been particularly useful because we are not allowed to use the kidney table that we previously used for small group instruction.

Again, thank you so much for your donation.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Rodriguez

  • A Cozy Learning Center

    Funded Mar 6, 2020

Again, I am so thankful for your generosity and willingness to enrich my students' school experience. The wonderful materials are currently stored in our school and my students and I can't wait for the day we return to our classroom.

Unfortunately, due to the Covid pandemic, my students have not set foot in our school this year. It does seem like that day is getting closer.

I do hope to make good use of the new games and the area rug to create a "cozy learning center" for my students. I know they will love it.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Rodriguez

  • Wiggling Around but Focused

    Funded Jan 10, 2019

My students who have been able to use the Hokki Stools have been quite happy with them. We only have three stools and I have mainly assigned them to students who need them most. These are my students who have a need to constantly move around. One of them has been diagnosed with ADHD.

When we first received the stools my students were not sure what they were. When I presented them to the students they were awed. They all tried them and were thrilled.

We have started to share the stools during certain parts of the day so that other students can get a chance to use them. However, they are best put to use by these students who need constant movement, and when using these they are more likely to focus and not interrupt others.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Rodriguez

  • Headphones for Learning

    Funded Apr 28, 2017

Thank you so much for your for making it possible for my students to to have access to quality children's headphones. Now they all have their own working headphones that are not too loud for them. They are able to work on learning apps and to read interactive e-books without interrupting their classmates, or their teacher.

They were very excited about having their own headphones. They no longer have to share headphones or worry about having to turn the volume as low as possible on a tablet. Being that these headphones are smaller that regular ones, the students appreciated how well they fit them.

One of the students asked if he could show our principal his headphones. I thought it was a good idea, so I let him and two other students go show them to our principal. He returned with the students to see them and congratulate them one their new headphones. They were very happy. Thank you again.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Rodriguez

  • Help Us Become Better Readers!

    Funded Apr 4, 2014

I want to thank you for supporting my project. My students were extremely happy to receive the new books. They could not wait to read them. My students have read these books with me during guided reading instruction. We meet in small groups and as each student reads independently, I help them use different strategies that help them become better readers. Then my students get to keep the books for practice until they move to the next reading level.

The amount of books we have for guided reading is limited. We have some sets at school but they are to be returned after a short time for others to use. Having these sets you have provided allow my students to keep them for continued reading practice. They love being able to do that.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Rodriguez

My students are wonderful kids who want to succeed. However, many of them have not been given the tools to be successful. They attend a large public school located in a working class neighborhood in Southern California. 90% of my students are English Learners and many of them have no one who can read with them in English. This is why it is so important that they have books that they can read.
