Just Mercy reveals that Lady Justice is not always blind, fair, or just. Just Mercy is a non-fictionalized portrayal of To Kill a Mockingbird set in modern America. Students need to read Bryan Stevenson's book. We will read it together, discuss the many issues involved, further research the topics of most interest to them, and then write compelling essays that wrestle with those challenges including racism, poverty, capital punishment, and juvenile and gender disparities within the American prison system. Like all life-changing books, Just Mercy shines a light in the dark.
