  • Let the Games Continue, Rain or Shine!

    I wanted to report exciting news. We finally had the opportunity to use the games we received through your generosity. They are a HIT!!! Thank you, thank you, thank you. The new games have resulted in many teaching opportunities. From having a discussion on philanthropy, to teaching them strategy, the resources provide an energetic dynamic in an otherwise monotonous rainy day.

    Students were delighted to learn about the generousity in people, the reason and why they help others, the Golden Rule, and paying it forward. In addition, students were provided with the historical context of board games, such as the ones we received. The best part of all this is, I still have to surprise them with two more games. The will be thrilled. Till the next rainy day, Thank You!”

  • Oh the Places We Will Go

    Thank you so much for your support. Your donation has assisted our class in recording our activities. To date, students have had exposure to several hiking trails in local national parks, have been exposed to responsible fishing practices in an offshore setting and have used the device for recording their own movement during skill acquisition. In addition, students have recorded many of the challenges they experience during our team building unit. Once again thank you for your contribution to our class.”

As educators, we embrace the challenge of teaching our students through lessons that are aligned with state standards and expectations. As a physical education teacher, many of these standards and expectations are difficult to achieve because they require specific resources that are not available to our economically disadvantaged community. Through this grant, I hope to narrow or close the gap between expectation and reality by bringing real world experiences to the classroom during this pandemic and beyond. Funding of the GoPro 8 camera grant would allow me to bring a tailored experience into the classroom that would otherwise be subpar in addressing Outdoor/Adventure, a standard in which students learn how to swim, hike, and fish among other skills. It is difficult to meet as it requires resources like a pool, safe outdoor hiking trails, and fishing tackle for each student that will never been available to my students. I am a strong advocate of teaching standards through hands-on experience to better meet all of my students' learning needs. Given the lack of resources, ever growing budget cuts, and higher number of students per class, field trips are out of the question. Since I can't take my students out into the real world, I want to bring the world to them via this GoPro 8 camera grant.
