Ordinary People Change The World: A Book Collection
Funded May 7, 2022Thank you so much for the wonderful books! Our students have enjoyed learning about these famous historical figures in a new light. They lit up when they saw the full collection as many students have only been introduced to a select few in the past. One student even jumped with joy when they saw the book about Jackie Robinson as she is a big baseball fan and we had just had our teachers versus 5th graders baseball game. On Fridays I let my groups choose one book to read for the last 5 minutes of our time and many of them have gravitated towards this collections. Thank you so much for bringing this joy to my students and enriching their love for reading even more.”

Funded May 3, 2022Thank you all so much for your donations! My students have grown tremendously with your help. At the end of last year my kindergarten groups had a huge improvement compared to the beginning of the year. With the combined help of parents, teachers, your donations, and my small group intervention help, kindergarten at my school went from nearly all students scoring far below grade level benchmark in reading skills, to only five students at far below benchmark at the end of the year. I hope to continue this growth with my new student groups this year and monitor the students that still need that extra help. You have truly helped the lives of my kinder students with your generosity by making my work easier.”

Funded Jan 21, 2020Although times now are different, while in class students loved every time they had group rotations and were able to use the resources and manipulatives you help acquire for them. They enjoyed building sight words, listening to a story read by the actual voice actors in movies, practice their phonological awareness by sorting objects by first sound, using the magic boards to practice writing letters, sight words, and numbers. They loved these additions to their learning. It means so much to me to have had your trust and support in helping build the best possible classroom experience for these kids. Currently it is difficult knowing they are not able to receive the best education while at home. However, as soon as my administrator allows, I will be going to my classroom to pick up several of these manipulatives and creating video lessons for my kids. Teaching is a part of me, and I can not just let that part sit back while knowing my kids are falling behind. You have my word I will continue my best effort to keep providing my students with the best possible classroom experience.”

Science Kits: the Final Frontier!
Funded Sep 13, 2017When my students first previewed the new material you selflessly provided for us they were beyond amazed and just itching to go try them out for themselves. The new material came at a perfect time as we were just wrapping up our unit of study on the states of matter. We explored outside the classroom looking for different states of matter, we froze various objects, we boiled others, and we made ice cream from scratch to get a tasty hands on lesson on turning liquids to solids! When the material you provided came in our students had a chance to play the Can Do! Matter Game to test their knowledge of all they had learned during our unit. They loved earning those tokens when they answered a question correctly and they would giggle as they filled with excitement wanting to answer a question read for somebody else.
They also had a chance to delve deeper into understanding matter by reading the books on matter that were included in to mini class library set you helped us obtain. I heard students share with their partners in excitement the answers to the questions in the books and the Can Do! Matter Game. They saw other examples of changing the states of matter in the books and even the vary experiments we got a chance to try their eyes widen with joy as they recalled the experiment and were amazed to see the similarities in the library books. Your generosity helped our students connect to their learning at more personal levels. As we know, learning lasts longer when it is personal and these experiences and connections you provided for us have solidified it into their memory.
The fun will only continue with the materials you provided as we begin delving into living things and classifying them. The animal and plant specimens will really help them see the differences in insects, fish, and the different stages of metamorphosis. We have already cut out animal pictures from National Geographic and sorted them out into groups (mammals, fish, insects, birds, reptiles, amphibians) and we will continue to learn more about classifying them in the weeks to come.
Thank you again for your generous donation and I will continue my efforts in making your gift have a lasting impression in our students”
