  • Soothing Sensory Needs

    Funded Jan 7, 2025

Curiosity brought forth a sense of calmness. Upon receiving the supplies, a sense of calmness filled the classroom. Curiosity was in everyone's faces, and as we were fortunate to have enough boxes, ever student was able to unbox an item from my Donors Choose project. That day, there were no complains but genuine excitement and an instant increase in engagement.

With these sensory tools, students have been able to discreetly "fidget". And although a student may need a reminder here or there, these tools have been a success in the classroom.”

  • Headphones For Differentiation

    Funded Feb 27, 2022

Although this letter is a bit late, I want to thank you for the headphones. With them, students were able to improve their attention and success when working on activities that were assigned on their computers or tablets.

In addition, these headphones were helpful during the school day as they allowed me to meet with small groups by limiting distractions and by allowing me to differentiated instruction for each and every student.

Thank you again for your donations and helping me and my students.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Pacheco

  • Spring Library Update

    Funded Mar 9, 2020

The books you helped bring into my classroom brought about a lot of excitement and joy. The COVID school year was a dull and sad school year until the graphic novels came in.

The graphic novels were grabbed by many of the students including the reluctant readers. And with these books in our classroom, Readers Workshop looked and sounded like Readers Work shop.

And although the text were difficult for many of my students with disabilities to read with accuracy and comprehension, the rich illustrations in these novels encouraged them to preview the books and make sense of the stories.”

  • Engage Us!

    Funded Dec 30, 2020

Words cannot express the gratitude my students and I upon the fulfillment of this project. Having Flocabulary as a resource has helped engage all of my students across various topics.

Flocabulary's use of music and visuals has reinforced what we have learned in the classroom. Furthermore, it has reached and helped the students who struggle with understanding due to their disabilities.

Dan Janzen, thank you for always supporting me and my educational journey when working with students with disabilities.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Pacheco

  • Superhero Books For My Superhero Students

    Funded Jan 30, 2019

Being in a self contained class can be difficult, but with the right tools, some creativity and a perpetual amount of patience an environment in which all students are engaged and have an access point for learning can be created. With your generous book donates I was able to create this environment and I am proud to report that the class has shown a higher interest in reading.

By introducing the Superhero books into our classroom I have seen the reluctant readers gravitate towards the books. Where once, these students did not touch a book- they are now looking at the illustration rich books, making connections to the superhero movies they have seen or cartoons they watch and most importantly... they are asking me and or their fellow peers to read to them.

The books have also been an instrumental part in our opinion writing unit. Each superhero book has been read to the class. They have collected facts about each superhero and used the facts to support their opinion as to who is the best hero.

Thank you everyone who helped me create this environment!”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Pacheco

  • Technology Need in Classroom

    Funded Feb 19, 2014

The addition of the Ipad has helped several students in my ICT classroom. The excitement of using an Ipad as a learning tool has made these students feel special and it has given them a greater interest in their studies. With apps such as Youtube, Google search, and Google Maps, my students have been able to find, understand and further investigate on their topic of study. In addition to increasing their engagement, the Ipad has been helpful for those students who require the kinesthetic approach. The touch screen and engaging apps and websites, help students with this learning style retain information unlike a computer or textbook. The Ipad has been a valuable addition to the classroom. Many thanks to all the people who helped bring it to our classroom.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Pacheco

  • Classroom Necessities

    Funded Jan 24, 2013

    Hey all,

Thank you for all your help in funding our class project. The students love the new technology in the classroom. They were all excited to use the new printer which came in really handy during our Colonial American research projects.

During our Colonial American unit, students were able to print important documents, pictures, maps, etc. In addition to printing resources online, students with fine motor skills were able to create amazing projects and print them on the new printer.

The laser pointer was another exciting addition to the class. The use of the laser pointer helped students follow along and improve fluency by using the laser to move under the words and showing them how to scoop words together during shared reading.

Finally the shredder was a nice tool to get students in the habit of practicing security and understanding the improtance of confidentality.

Again thank you all for your support and funding our project.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Pacheco

  • Cold And Snowy Day Activities

    Funded Feb 14, 2013

    Hey all,

Thank you for helping our school get materials which will be used on days when they cannot use the courtyard. Your donations have been used to purchase books of various genres and reading levels, which will help all PS 295 students keep active and engaged on days of inclement weather.

Our school believes in keeping our students safe and on days when the weather does not permit students to play in the courtyard, we use these books to keep our students engaged in educational activities.

Without donors like you, Donors Choose would not be able to successfully help teachers like us.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Pacheco

My students attend a small and young school in the Bronx. All my students are all special education students who are two or more years behind and are feeling the frustration of the common core standards and high stake testing. However, with all the frustration and anxiety in the air I can reach them and help them make progress and most importantly, help them enjoy learning again.
