  • Creating Global Readers

    Funded Sep 17, 2018

Thank you to everyone who shared or donated to this cause! Your contributions will help broaden my students' way of seeing the world. Being an educator is difficult but individuals such as yourselves make it much easier. Me and my students thank you all for choosing to make a difference.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. O'Brien

  • Classroom Library Needs A Facelift

    Funded Sep 1, 2017

Your gracious donations have helped stir a newfound interest of reading in my classroom. Thanks to you, many of my students are making connections with the books they read and engaging in organic, sophisticated discussions concerning identity, adolescence, and race. In addition to reading literature that reflects their own personal struggles, I've finally convinced many of my sports plays (that despise reading) to pick up a sports book! The diversity of my classroom library has truly helped me in making reading not only a priority for my students, but also fun.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. O'Brien

I work in a Title I school in Bushwick. My students are respectful learners that enjoy and appreciate lessons structured with creativity. Many of my students are on either basketball, soccer, volleyball, or baseball teams. I welcome my students to be themselves and try to have fun in the classroom; I actively encourage dramatic readings and often allow students to engage in activities that permit them to choose their own grouping and move around the room. The majority of my students are, however, reluctant readers outside of the classroom. It is difficult to motivate my students to read when they're not in my class - the vast majority of them think that there's "nothing fun" to read. I hope that, through this donorschoose page, I can change that perspective.
