  • Supplies for Second Grade Scholars!

    Thank you so much for your generous donation! As the school year progresses, supplies in the classroom become low. These include everything from markers, crayons, tape, poster board, staples, prizes for the prize box and a lot more. Because my students are from a low-income family, they cannot afford to buy more school supplies half way into the school year. Because of you and your generosity, my students are able to continue coloring and drawing without the burden of worrying if they will can get more crayons. Because of you, my class can focus on the material we are learning without worrying how we will get supplies for the classroom.   • Making Mathematicians!

    I want to thank you for all of your generous donations!

    Being a new teacher can be extremely stressful, especially when you have to buy lots of materials and resources for your class from your own pocket. However, having something like Donor's Choose allows generous people like yourself to donate towards a good cause.

    Our Math curriculum this year is not only new to the school, but can be extremely challenging. Having the manipulatives that you donated towards has allowed my students to excel tremendously! They truly are enjoying everything from the Bingo games, using the rulers to measure centimeters and millimeters, using the geometric shapes, using the base ten blocks for 2-3 digit numbers, and using the dice for games.

    Because of you, my class is extremely grateful for giving them the opportunity to learn with manipulatives and to simply make learning fun again!

These manipulative will make learning math a fun hands on experience for my students. The common core math curriculum can be difficult for students to understand with out the ability to manipulate things. The understanding of place value and regrouping is hard to visual for many students. The use of place value blocks makes regrouping a much easier concept to understand. The second grade math curriculum also requires students to master measurement in inches and centimeters using both cubes and rulers. With out inch and centimeter cubes or enough rulers for each student this becomes a very difficult task. We have been getting by with paper rulers and cut outs of approximate inch and centimeter cubes but nothing is better than having the correct and true cubes and rulers. Second grade students are also expected to learn about money- coin names, values, and counting coins. How do you do that with out having money? Play money becomes a necessity during our money unit. In the end, your donations will help my students gain life long knowledge and a love of math. Math can be boring, but when you add the hands on component of manipulates math becomes more engaging and easier to understand. These manipulative will be used specifically to build their knowledge and mastery of the skill we learn in math class, skills that they will take with them throughout their education and into their adult life. Your donations will allow my enthusiastic students the ability to grow into the amazing mathematician I know they could be if they had the chance to have fun with math.
