  • Engaging Resources From Teachers Pay Teachers!

    Funded Jan 4, 2024

Thank you for your generous donation. I was able to purchase several exciting and engaging worksheets on my Teachers Pay Teachers account wish list using the gift card funded from this donation.

One purchase in particular was the "End of the Year Activities. This is a question and answer type class activity where students look through various questions and reflect on the school year. We started doing this after state testing and the students had a fun time going through the questions!

Another resource they liked was the "Multiplication Times Tables Practice Warm Up Drills". They spent weeks practicing their multiplication fluency independently and with their peers. It became a competition to see who could orally recite all the multiples the fastest.

Your contribution to my class has really helped my students and my teaching to thrive this school year. Again, thank you for being a big part of the success in my classroom.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. L.

  • Lunar New Year 2024

    Funded Dec 29, 2023

Thank you for your generous donation. I was able to purchase flower pattern lanterns of different colors that light up for every student on the grade to celebrate Lunar New Year.

Lunar New Year is an important holiday for my students and their families. We spent the day watching videos about the holiday and the different traditions that took place during this occasion. Students who celebrated it shared what they knew about it and the entire grade spent time doing calligraphy, making paper lanterns, and had lots of fun working on a Panda Express activity book.

To end the day of festivities, the teachers handed out the light-up lanterns. They were stunned to see how decorative it was and excited to turn it on. None of this would've been possible without your contribution. Again, thank you for being a big part of the success in my classroom.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. L.

  • Engaging Resources From Teachers Pay Teachers!

    Funded Feb 1, 2023

Thank you for your generous donation. I was able to purchase several exciting and engaging worksheets on my Teachers Pay Teachers account wish list using the gift card funded from this donation.

One purchase in particular was the "Design a _____" math bundle. This is a project-based math project where students had to find the area, perimeter, or volume to help them construct cities, zoos, and farms. They had a blast working on this project!

Another project they liked was the "Grandma Got Ran Over By WHICH Reindeer". In this mystery based "game", students examined reindeer prints, discovered clues to match which reindeer was where in the moments before the "crime", and wrote a persuasive essay supporting their claim.

Other purchases made on Teachers Pay Teachers were division error analysis problems, multiplication flip cards, and test prep material. Your contribution to my class has really helped my students and my teaching to thrive this school year. Again, thank you for being a big part of the success in my classroom.”

  • Providing All First Graders with Basic School Supplies

    Funded Aug 13, 2020

Thank you for your generous donation. The students were thrilled to have pencils, scissors, glue, erasers, pencil sharpeners, and pencil pouches to use the first day of school. This year, most of my students are learning from home remotely and do not have the necessary materials to complete their assignments. Because of your generosity, they can come prepared each morning as they learn math, reading, writing, science, social studies, and word study. Pencils and erasers are used to practice CVC/CVCC words and create narratives and informational writing. Glues and scissors are for cutting printed copies of pattern block shapes and gluing them into their notebooks. If their pencils become dull, they use the pencil sharpener. At the end of the day when assignments are completed, they put all their donated materials away in their pencil pouch.

When the parents learned their children were getting basic supplies, they were so happy and grateful. One of my students who came into school to pick up the supplies said, "Thank you for the pencils! I don't have any at home." Another said, "Wow! What a pretty pencil pouch! That's my favorite color". This truly made my day. Many of the families were and are still affected by the pandemic and don't have the ability to purchase supplies for her children.

Right now we are starting on informational writing. The students are researching animals they like and then creating a non-fiction piece on what they learned. In addition to writing, they also need to draw their animal, cut it out, and glue it onto their published piece. Without your support, they won't be able to do any of this at home. Again, thank you for contributing and being a big part of my classroom.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. L.

  • Fun Learning Through Math Stations!

    Funded Sep 23, 2019

Thank you for your generous donation. My class is so excited to be using the iPad each day to learn math on apps such as Splash Math, Prodigy, and Pearson Realize to practice place value, forms, addition, subtraction, and learn new math terms. This has been a tremendous help because it allows me to have 2 stations; one for using the iPad/games and another for small group help. Students using the iPad or games can be independent while I work with students who need additional support.

The most exciting part is that they get an iPad to use in school. The students are used to learning from traditional books and worksheets. However, they now get the option to learn using fun math apps all because of the addition of the iPad. In my class, each student is assigned a day of the month to use the iPad and they always get excited when it's their turn to use it.

Moreover, there are a few students in my class who are struggling in math. In years prior, they did not fully understand the topics they learned and developed little or no confidence when it came time to do math. With the addition of using the iPad to learn math in an interactive and "game-like" way, these students now enjoy learning it and are improving on their math quizzes.

Your contribution to my class has really helped my students and my teaching to thrive this school year. Again, thank you for being a big part of the success in my classroom.”

  • Writing Tools to Help Young Authors Complete the Writing Process!

    Funded Oct 16, 2018

Thank you for your generous donation. The students were thrilled to have pencils, different color pens, thin sharpies and index cards to use in their writing center as they went through the writing process to create Native American legends. They started off by using pencils to brainstorm ideas. The next stage of drafting had the students using blue pens. When they were ready to revise their drafts, purple color pens were used to add or remove details and also to make their sentences spicier. For editing, students used green pens to make final touch ups. Finally, students went back to pencils for their published writing. In addition, index cards and thin sharpies were used to illustrate detailed sketches of their Native American animals.

When the students first saw the boxes of writing supplies, they were excited and curious. Up until this point, they only used pencils for writing and it was hard to read as they went through each stage of the writing process. Having different color pens and types of writing instruments makes it easier for the students to become authors. Overall, it's been very successful in the classroom.

With the Native American Legends completed, the class will move on to writing book reviews this month. After students select a book they will like to critique, they will use the tools to go through the writing process again. The young authors really enjoyed the new system of having different writing tools available for them and I know they'll be excited when they craft their book reviews. Again, thank you for contributing and being a big part of my classroom.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. L.

  • Library Checkout Made Simple!

    Funded Mar 27, 2018

Thank you for your generous donation. The students spent the last two weeks putting in library pockets and filling out cards that go along with them. In all, we did this for 2,000 books in our classroom library. Although this was a tedious process, the kids enjoyed creating a better library borrowing system in the classroom.

When the students first saw the boxes of cards, they were surprised. Gone are the days of having a confusing borrowing system. Now they get to use a system they've been familiar with all their lives while using the public library. The students couldn't wait to start adding in the pockets and cards in each book. Despite the huge task of putting it in every book in the classroom, they worked together tirelessly and completed it.

In September, my new students will get to take advantage of this library borrowing system. They'll learned how to fill out the cards and how to return them when they are done. As a teacher, I am so happy to have received this donation. Now I don't have to worry about who is borrowing Captain Underpants or Magic School Bus. I can look at the cards and as an added bonus, see which books are popular and which aren't. Again, thank you for contributing to my classroom.”

My students are kind and curious learners. This upcoming year, I will be teaching in a 5th grade ICT classroom. We are a Title 1 school, which means that my students, nearly all of my learners, are currently living below the poverty line. It is important for my students to receive the support they need to thrive in 5th grade. With your contributions, you are exposing an underprivileged population of NYC students to resources that will build their literacy and mathematical skills as well as set them up for success in the future.
