  • Fifth-Grade Farmers Forage for Fantastic Fresh Food

    Funded May 6, 2024

Who's up for a Lettuce Party? In our class, we've had multiple lettuce tastings because of the abundant harvest in our classroom farm. It's been pretty remarkable to see how things grow from seed to different varieties of lettuce that grow right in our class and yet are tasty and nutritious.

I did not expect to have such eager students with regard to eating fresh greens, but they wipe out whatever we harvest and they can identify differences between the different types of lettuce.

There's something lovely about entering the room each day and seeing so many houseplants thriving in our room. They create a pleasing and healthy ambiance for the students to work in.

Thank you for bringing our classroom to life!”

  • Powerful Printer for Passionate Pupils

    Funded Nov 8, 2023

Thank you so much for helping bring this new technology into our classroom. I feel like I have to keep learning alongside my students. Actually, with some of the new technology, I am aware that they can pass me by, and that's a good thing. I can't wait to see which student becomes our go-to expert for a certain skill in TinkerCAD design or utilizing the 3D printer.

Just having these resources in the classroom, elevates their potential to learn. Students think differently when presented with new tools to solve problems.

I can't pretend to know where this might take us. But, I'm excited to buckle up and go for the ride!”

  • Powerful Printer Provides Passionate Pupils Palpable ExPeriences

    Funded Nov 2, 2023

Your support has made a significant impact on our students' learning experience, and we are overjoyed to share the exciting news with you – we now have a brand-new 3D printer in our 5th-grade classroom!

Your thoughtful contribution has opened up a world of possibilities for our students. The 3D printer has already become a focal point of our lessons, sparking creativity and curiosity among the children.

With this cutting-edge technology at our fingertips, we are delving into innovative projects that blend technology and creativity. Students will be able to design and create solutions to problems with programs like TinkerCad.

We recently completed a survival PBL (Project-Based Learning) challenge and students were excited to think of how they would use the soon-to-arrive 3D Printer.

I'm as excited as they are to see where this new technology leads us.”

  • Incredible Intellectuals and Impressive iPad!

    Funded Oct 31, 2023

Technology always makes things better, doesn't it?

Having a new iPad in the classroom is exciting. We keep looking at new ways that my students and their teacher can use it. We've been using it for some amazing time-lapses of our classroom day, passing clouds, and our class goldfish. Being able to speed up the normal timing of things allows us to see things differently and observe unique patterns.

I've been using it to take notes on student work and record actionable feedback for them to grow in their writing and analysis. It sure beats notes on index cards that can easily get misplaced.

The iPad even helps with reading fluency practice and assessment. Students can record themselves and I can listen to it again at home with feedback.

    Thank you so much!”

  • Super Students Start School Stocked with Supplies!

    Funded Jul 17, 2023

I don't need to describe to you what a difference it makes to start off a project with the right materials. But, I'm going to anyway. Starting off a new school year with a new class of students with just the right materials makes such an impact.

It was so great to have everything we needed from the start. As we delved into math, I could share notebooks with grid paper for each student to take notes. We do a lot of math computations and the whiteboard and markers are central to this. Ironically, students are much more likely to engage knowing they can erase their work quickly. It lowers their affective filters knowing that they aren't risking the permanence of a wrong answer as we develop their skills. Page protectors are nice for whiteboards, but real whiteboards take it to the next level. Students love to hold their work up and show how they used a unique strategy to solve each problem.

Scissors, cardstock, and paper may seem like pretty basic items, but having a well-stocked class makes everything else run so much better. Thank you for making the school year a success!”

I have an amazing class of 28 fifth graders. Our local community is formed overwhelmingly by recent immigrants from Mexico and Central America. 99% of my students are Latino and must navigate a bi-cultural and bilingual world. 92% of our students receive free or reduced-price lunch and they see the struggles of family members who often deal with long hours, low-paying jobs, and lack of higher education. Parents want better for their children. It is my pleasure to work with students who show so much interest and curiosity in reading, writing, technology, science, math, history, health, and the arts. Each day is a new chance to spark interest and learn something brand new. Will we delve deeper into the ingenuity of a classic novel? Create haiku poetry? Explore how the digestive system really works in fascinating detail? Compare unlike fractions? Marvel at the stars above? I can't wait to see what today holds!
