In my class, students thrive off of small group instruction. Smaller individualized instruction gives students the attention they deserve to be successful. Students rotate between working with the teacher, completing independent work, integrating technology, and practicing math fluency. When working with the teacher (me), students can use the whiteboards and expo markers to work through problems. The erasers serve as an easy way for students to pick up on any self-made errors and make changes to their mathematical processes. This idea supports the growth mindset that mistakes a made and we are not perfect...yet. The posters listed help provide aid in promoting the growth mindset and help set a positive classroom environment. Then, clipboards will give students the freedom to do their independent work in various locations throughout the classroom. As mentioned, my classes are structured to follow the Math Workshop model, where students are moving around the classroom, completing various activities throughout the class period. Finally, the buzzers allow us to exercise our knowledge of the content being covered in class. Students will be engaged in jeopardy/quiz show games. These games are not only enjoyable for the students, it helps increase their buy-in to the material, as well as provides a formative assessment tool to the teachers.
