I have a very diverse student population that includes a wide range of ethnicities and socio-economic backgrounds. About half of my students are first generation Americans. Many speak two languages that are reflective of their diverse backgrounds. I would say that the largest growing population is Asian but we have students that are Italian, Greek, Latino, Irish, African-American, Afghani, Arab, Jewish, Indian, and Pakistani. We have a population of over 900 students. I see 700 students per week for dance. When in my class they are fully engaged and enjoy the challenge of being physical and learning about different dance forms and choreography. I also have a number of self-contained classes as well as inclusion classes and I find that many of these students benefit immensely in their academics by being able to express themselves through movement and creating choreography.
