The Groundhog Project
Funded Oct 4, 2023I wanted to show my Grade 4 students how to measure and observe our environment and its changes: our Title 1 school kids have been able to open up to the possibilities technology has made available to us, thanks to your generosity, to explore the weather in our environment and record its changes over time.
Having a weather station means that now our` students in 5 Grade 4 groups have access to daily new discoveries straight from their school's grounds, without having to go all the way to a museum or a lab.
Your support of STEM in public schools is what motivates me and my colleagues to give our best to our students!”
With gratitude,
Mr. Hurtado

Funded Oct 10, 2023It has been so heartwarming to see your donations come and completely fund our stereo microscope. Now students in 5 Grade 4 groups have access to daily new discoveries straight from their backyard and the school's grounds, without having to go all the way to a museum or a lab.
This is allowing my colleagues and I to do more hands on activities and inspire our students to becoming future researchers.
Your generosity is helping us make learning relevant for our students and is also motivating me and my colleagues to do a great job to reach all our goals for our school.”

Mr. Hurtado

Funded Oct 3, 2023It is incredibly heartwarming to see this project fast and effectively funded! It was my dream to be able to show our school's Grade 4 students the world of biology through the lenses of a stereo microscope and your generosity has allowed our Title 1 school kids to open up to the possibilities technology has made available to us. They are now able to explore the world of tiny insects and plants that make our ecosystem work so perfectly.

Tiny Machines Toward Great Success
Funded Nov 10, 2017A few students use technology at home. They sometimes use their parents' phone in order to have access to the Internet. Tablets are friendly tools to learn several subjects in my classroom such as reading and math. They are using several apps to learn to read as AZ- Reading and IStation, with excellent results. Both applications are in English and Spanish and my students are excited to learn the same book titles in two languages. At the same time, they are practicing math as a part of their core instruction. My students with special needs enjoy this new technology because they use fun games and different apps that are academically appropriate and easy to use.”

A Bag Full of Dreams
Funded Sep 11, 2013My students were so happy to receive their new books!! Each one of them received his/her bag full of stories and the excitement was all about actually being able to read them, just like the teacher does! It made them feel so special.
These bags go home every week with them and help them improve their reading skills at home. Every week they exchange the books in their bags with their friends, to enhance their reading capabilities and surprise them with new topics and exciting words to read.
In the classroom we also use the books to do guided reading in a small group: they interpret the pictures and guess the story, then each one reads a different page and we discover if our guesses were right.
After this work, they finish reading the book on their own and then share it with the class.
This project boosted my students' learning because I chose the books accurately and made sure they would be exposed to simple writing that would bring their reading skills to a higher level not scaring the students but motivating them to reach a higher level of reading. Now, they all feel like they can challenge themselves with more difficult books, and they are all eager to learn new stories!
This was possible only thanks to your generosity!
My students and I will make sure to make you proud of us!”
With gratitude,
Mr. Hurtado
