  • Games, Sports, and Skills

    With over 200 students getting over 30 days of use out of these new materials, I would call this donor's choose project a huge success!

    Having a refresh of PE materials has been enriching for these students. The new balance board has been a smash hit with the kiddos when I tell them how pro surfers, skateboarders, and snowboarders use it as a balance tool!!!

    The improvement these items made in the overall PE flow and program is amazing.

    The kids were so excited as these items got opened up and revealed, I hope to do another fundraiser soon!”

  • PE Refresh - Supplies and New Opportunities

    The students were so excited as I unveiled each of these new items and were so happy to have replacements for worn.

    It has been so exciting to partner with all of you to make some of these opportunities possible while having no budget for my PE program. Kids need to be exposed to fresh/novel movement opportunities so that they have memories/skills to be confident and active for a lifetime! Without functioning PE equipment, that task is impossible. So thank you.

    Going forward I am looking to add a small bike skills track to be used both in structured PE time and as a same riding space for students in after school hours.”

  • Unicycles for Balance and Mastery

    These Unicycles have been an awesome addition to the arsenal of resources I have for my students. Kiddos have been electing to practice them during free choice time and beyond. One family even went on to buy their 4th grade girl her own unicycle.

    I am certainly grateful for your support and belief in what I am trying to do here at Bonanza, exposing students to diverse skills and meaningful experiences. It requires a diverse skillset to become a healthy, active adult. It is our childhood experiences with these things that forge our perceptions of what is possible.”

  • Students Rock: Our Climbing Wall

    WOW! The smiles and stoke abound! The students are taking to the skills and love of the sport and processes of safety even more than I imagined. It is so cool to see 4th, 5th, and 6th graders successfully setting up rappels and double checking each other for safety (in a safe and controlled fashion, 4 ft above a padded floor). I am excited to see how this continues.

    Next we will be branching into belay techniques and safety next, along with learning the figure 8 knot and hitch knots. I am excited that we may even get to anchor building and clipping bolts (sport climbing) in the spring.”

Rock climbing provides an almost unparalleled opportunity to pass outdoors, safety, and fear management skills onto students, as well as physical problem solving to "solve" the climbing itself. I cannot emphasize how excited I am to propose this idea, let alone to teach it! By bringing these harnesses, climbing ropes, belay devices, and quickdraws into the existing climbing environment at our school, students will have the opportunity to become proficient at all the technical, as well as the safety, skills of this wonderfully empowering form of outdoorsmanship! Please help these students climb in class and in life! I am passionate to teach if you are passionate to help me provide!

About my class

Rock climbing provides an almost unparalleled opportunity to pass outdoors, safety, and fear management skills onto students, as well as physical problem solving to "solve" the climbing itself. I cannot emphasize how excited I am to propose this idea, let alone to teach it!
