My school is a high needs priority school in the heart of Indianapolis. Most of my students are from a low income community and their parents want the absolute best for their children. Many of these students have not experienced the city of Indianapolis outside their own communities nor have they even considered the thought of college. As a first generation college graduate from a similar community in Memphis, I want my students to know that they are capable of achieving anything that they put their minds and where they come from shouldn't stop them from pursuing their dreams. In terms of academics, many of students have struggled in math consistently to the point where their confidence is extremely low and tend to shut down and give on themselves. I work tireless each and everyday to counteract this mentality to attempt to instill the characteristic of perseverance in my students at this young age with the aspiration that they will persist through difficult challenges in the future.
