  • Help! Tablet Troubles (Part 2)

    Funded Dec 9, 2015

I didn't really know the power of an iPad until it had arrived at my classroom door. My students were so excited to tear in. For many of them this was like Christmas! The looks on their faces was priceless. However, since then we have intergraded technology into almost everything that we do. The students use iPads to research various topics from the grade curriculum and some even come into class with their very own questions that they want answers. Since it is testing season we have intergraded many fun websites and apps as tools to practice the skills we will be testing.

My students are really starting to fall in love with learning, and because of your charitable donation they can now have access to information just like everyone else!

Thank you for inspiring my children and leveling the playing field!”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Greco

  • Capable Chromebooks Needed!

    Funded Oct 27, 2015

I didn't really know the power of a chromebook until they arrived at my classroom door. My students were so excited to tear in. For many of them this was the first time opening up a brand new computer. The looks on their faces was priceless. However, since then we have intergraded them into almost everything that we do. The students use the chromebooks to research various topics from the grade curriculum and some even come into class with their very own questions that they want answers. Since it is testing season we have intergrated many fun websites as a different tool to practice the skills we will be testing.

My students are really starting to fall in love with learning, and because of your charitable donation they can now have access to information just like everyone else!

  • WANTED: Writing Center Materials for Future Authors

    Funded Nov 27, 2014

On behalf of my fifth graders, thank you again for your donation of a new a new wooden writing center and various writing supplies (highlighters, post-its, paper, timer) to our class. You should have seen the looks on my students' faces when they walked into the room the morning the new and improved writing area was unveiled! It has transformed my students attitude towards writing. My students love being able to edit their partners work, or get their materials and work independently, or build stamina by utilizing the timer. All of us in my classroom community are incredibly appreciative of the continued generosity from you and other DonorsChoose.org patrons.

Since September, we had been using basic notebook paper (that's if students have brought in notebooks) and dried up highlighters, and a clock that sometimes stops to help support our writing lessons. Because of your generosity, our writing lessons have been transformed and are always engaging.

Your help has ensured that my fifth grade students receive a high-quality education throughout the year, one that allows the students to be independent and own their learning and classroom. Thank you again for providing the class with these wonderful classroom tools. My current group of fifth graders' quality of education (not to mention many future groups!) has undoubtedly been improved by your kindness. Have a great rest of the school year!”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Greco

  • Back to the Basics!

    Funded Sep 6, 2012

WOW! I cannot believe how lucky I am. As an educator I thought that getting my projected funded would be a long shot. When I saw that people were so generous I was shocked. When my project got fully funded I was AMAZED! As a teacher, this is hard because we always have a lot to say, but I can honestly say I am speechless at the selfless acts of kindness that I have witnessed. I cannot thank you enough for the generosity that you have shared with my students. Your donations have made a huge impact in the academic and social success of my students this year.

As an elementary school teacher it is my job to teach children academic disciplines such as reading and math but also good character. Because of your donations, my instruction about citizenship, generosity, and community has been effected in a positive way. My students now have tangible evidence of all of these acts of good character. I have also seen how my students have more pride in their supplies because they know it was a gift. Academically, I see more accountability as well as more successful attempts in their work. This gift has made a dramatic impact for my students.

I cannot begin to thank you for everything that your donation has done for my group of students! Please know that you have made a positive impact in the lives of my students.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Greco

My NYC public school students live in a neighborhood that contains NYC low-income housing community and brownstones. Their day-to-day experiences outside of school can be EXTREMELY different. However, they ALL deserve a place to have fun and develop a love of learning. As their teacher, I identify my students as smart, creative individuals, who have the potential to shatter any stereotype to become caring, inquisitive, problem solvers; who one day will model the change they want to see in the world.
