  • Photo Math Resources

    Funded Sep 21, 2023

Thank you for your support in making Math and Photography come alive in my classroom. Thanks to your donation, class will run more smoothly with a new and functioning keyboard, and we will be able to print our photos in vivid color. Thank you for your continued support and I am excited to show you what we produce.”

  • A New Surface to Write On

    Funded Feb 25, 2023

Thanks to your contribution, my classroom is now a state of the art learning environment.

With the new surface tablet, I have been able to employ the full tools that Microsoft creates in its learning suite. I can now use the most up to date version of Microsoft one notes, which allows me to take notes on my computer and share them with students on their computers. I can also write more accurately on the board, run simultaneous programs and teach more fluidly.

A side impact of your donation has been the ability to work better with my photography elective. The new Surface has a much stronger graphics card which allows me to edit photos more effectively and clearly on the board and show students the benefits of editing technology.

You have made my class-room truly state of the art and your impact is felt every day.”

  • White Boards for Math Class

    Funded Feb 27, 2023

Thank you for your generous contribution to our classroom. Thanks to your support, students have beautiful whiteboards that have graphs on the back.

This has fundamentally changed my teaching style. With these new whiteboards, I can ask students to graph lines and hold them up so I can immediately give detailed and clear feedback to students on their graphing skills. Gone are the days of walking slowly around the classroom and leaning over their desks to see their work. Now, students can hold up their graphs and I can give them immediately feedback.

In addition, this tool has helped students work together to improve. Students can now see each other's work more clearly and give solid feedback.

your contribution has helped me make a more safe and fun learning environment.”

    Mr. Feinberg

  • Photography Necessities

    Funded Sep 21, 2022

I started this donors choose request after I realized the extra things we would need to make photography successful this year - and thanks to you the class was a huge success. Students used the tripods and materials you provided to take thousands of photographs all over our campus.

With your donation, our students learned a new art medium, and found a new way to express themselves. They took portraits, abstract shots, learned about photographic elements like framing and leading lines, and even went on a photography field trip. I am so grateful that you gave them the tools to be successful. Next week, we will present our work in a gallery and so will post pictures so you can see their final products.”

  • Math Photography Needs a High Quality Printer

    Funded Jun 14, 2022

Your gift of a photo quality printer has been an outstanding part of our photography class. Digital photography is fun - it allows you to take as many pictures as you want and send them wherever you want. But printing them out makes them real. This semester, students printed over 1000 photographs. They clamored to be able to print new photos every day.

Thanks to your contribution, students have printed photos for our gallery exhibition next week. Each student is presenting their ten best photographs in a walk through experience where they can show their work to their friends and family. I will attach some pictures of their galleries below.”

  • Camera Accessories

    Funded Aug 9, 2022

Thank you for your generous gift. With the camera accessories you provided, students were able to learn valuable camera techniques that made their photography skills even stronger. This semester we took so many amazing photographs around our campus and at our field trip to the Natural History Museum. Students got to use the tools you provided in real world settings - and that made all the difference.

Next week, we will be holding our end of semester gallery. Students are excited to display their photography to their friends and family. All of this is possible because of the donation you made. I asked one of the students what she liked about photography and she said "Everything - it's been a beautiful experience" Thank you for making that possible.

    Thank you so much”

  • Board Games for Social Skills

    Funded Mar 2, 2022

Today we opened and started playing chess in person for the first time. It was amazing to watch students hold the pieces and marvel at the difference between playing on a computer and playing in person.

We have been preparing for weeks for this exact moment. Over the last 15 sessions, I have taught students how each piece moves and its position on the board. Students have been able to play against a computer online, but never against another person because our firewall bans any interpersonal play through the internet. In addition, the computer program very deeply guides their moves, showing them what moves they can make and not giving them the option to make incorrect moves.

It might seem odd, but making incorrect moves is exactly what I want them to do. Chess is about rules, and to enforce those rules, students must talk and explain. Today I watch a student try to move a pawn backwards, and the other student - who is typically one of the quietest students in the class - said "no, you can't do that - pawns can only move forwards, unless they are attacking". This kind of interaction strengthens student's confidence, their interpersonal bonds and of course, their strategic mindset.

I am so grateful for your contribution for making those small but important interactions happen. Thank you again for believing in kids and giving them the power to learn through play.”

    Mr. Feinberg

  • 3D Printing for Math Intervention

    Funded Sep 25, 2019

Thanks to your contribution, we were able to significantly increase our output in 3D printing. The two new printers that you donated enabled me to rapidly prototype students designs and give them the joy of creation.

With this contribution, I was able to incorporate mathematics into 3D printing. We used multipliers and scale to determine the appropriate size for their designs, and it fostered deep thought and conversation amongst the students about how to best make their design print properly. Students have made headbands, key chains and Christmas ornaments. At the end of the semester, I gave them time to print anything they liked - and they got very excited with the freedom it provided them.

Thank you for giving students the gift of creation. You have opened their eyes to a world of possibilities.”

  • Restock our Engineering Room

    Funded Sep 24, 2019

Thank you for restocking our engineering room! Thanks to your donation, students now have the basic tools they need to make creative designs. When students opened your contributions, their faces lit up because it was exactly what they needed.

Here are some examples of how they have used the materials: They used the clay to weigh down their pulleys and create disequilibrium between the two sides. They used the glue sticks to attach finger to their prosthetic arms. They used the rubber bands to create tension between the fingers so that they could pick up bean bags.

All of these donations helped in small ways that led to big learning. Students began to understand the engineering cycle - ideate, create, demonstrate, recreate. Thank you for giving our students the power to create and learn in a fun and interactive way.”

  • Cut It Out! A Miter Saw for Wood Cuts.

    Funded Jul 31, 2019

Thank you so much for your generous donation. Thanks to your contribution, we were able to purchase a miter saw and jigsaw to use during class. This enabled to students to use real wood, instead of simply using cardboard. As a result, students designs have been stronger and more advanced. Students have also been able to learn basic wood work skills - like using a drill, drilling a pilot hole and hammering to build a joint.

Thanks to your help, I think we have a strong chance of competing for a top place in the MESA competition this spring. The students are very grateful for your contribution and so am I.”
