  • Basketballs for the Stars

    Funded Dec 27, 2018

Thanks again to all of you for your support on yet another completed project for my student at P169M. This time you supported my basketball team, which is now 9 and 6 and tied for 3rd place in our league. At this rate we will definitely make the playoffs. We have new uniforms, new equipment (thanks to you) and now our students have a new attitude. School pride and morale is at an all time high and we appreciate you for it. With new equipment, I have been able to teach impactful drills and help students feel like they are a part of something real. These kids that aren't always offered the best equipment feel like they're on a real team, thanks to you and your donations.

Please stay tuned and continue to support our students as this is only the beginning. As they grow, so will their opportunities. Thank you and GOD Bless!!”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Danticat

  • Innovating the Path to Literacy Through Chromebooks!

    Funded Aug 22, 2018

The technology sent to our school has made writing essays, from start to finish, much easier. The fact that they have been accessible to our students has made it possible for us to assign writing assignments that require students to research, edit, and then produce completed work samples.

The students love the Google Chromebooks because they are small and easy to use. They can walk around the classroom and show their classmates their work, check in with teachers, and transition easily to "play time" because they are familiar with all of the applications.

Some students are very internet and technology savvy while others lack the computer science skills. The Google Chromes are accessible to students of varying abilities. The youngsters who are most advanced have been able to pass their knowledge on to some of the other students. Therefore, the Google Chromes help us stretch our students beyond the technology standpoint so that they can be more open to working with each other.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Danticat

Students in my classroom have experienced the most success when they’ve been able to demonstrate their mastery of a concept through the use of technology. With a lack of resources and funds, we have been limited to using graphic organizers and sharing computers for publishing writing assignments. These Chromebooks will allow students to boost their confidence and motivate them to complete tasks that require higher amounts of focus and concentration. This additional resource would supplement the writing instruction and would give students the option of editing and submitting projects electronically. I want my students to continue developing literacy skills and intend on making sure my students are college ready by exposing them to different programs and software that many higher institutions use such as Google Doc, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe Reader, etc. My students are very much aware that school is one of the only places where they’ll have access to a variety of instructional tools and my hope is that they’ll go to high school maybe even college with a working knowledge of how to use these programs. Having access to these Chromebooks will allow students to build healthy study habits and self-regulation strategies to help keep them composed during stressful situations. I have noticed that integrating technology in the lessons has helped reduce behavioral outbursts and have allowed students to really flourish. Students are engaged and completely immersed in what they are doing when given the option to produce something in writing on a word processing program or practice a skill on an online game. Students have also been observed helping each other when playing online games and doing group projects. With these new Chromebooks, my students will have the ability to explore other programs and creatively complete projects using computer applications. Thank you in advance.
