  • Math Skills for Life?

    I would like to thank you for your contribution to the "Math Skills for Life" project. The impact of your contribution and the existence of this project have had a major impact in every classroom in my school, and most importantly in the heart and minds of the individual students. The paper, color pencils, and flashdrive made it possible for students to complete their Math Project as it related to science and the Rock Cycle and mathematics tasks that require students to apply key mathematical concepts in the first three units in Mathematics, including decimals, fractions, and number sense. Students" knowledge, grades, and positive attitude toward mathematics increased as a result of the Math Skills Class.

    The parents were impacted on a daily basis. Because of the "Math Skills for Life" sessions, parents had to use less time going over previous taught math skills at home and focus on the current concepts of each grade as it related to the math standards and curriculum. There were several parents who commented on the positive impact the extra help had on their child's attitude about school and grade in their child's math class. As the teacher of this program, the contribution impacted me a great deal as well. After 20 years of teaching students on every level, including adult education, this project required me to work with grades 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, and parents in order to maximize the potential of all the students in the school.

    In conclusion, the laser-printer ink cartridges made it possible to supply students with differentiated activities without worrying about a limited supply of ink. Therefore, the contribution impacted the budget of our school by making it possible for the administration to use money in other areas of need such as books, reading programs, and supplying all students with an excellent arts program.

  • Let's Make It Happen: Our New Math Resource Center

    Thank you so much for your contribution to my school. Honestly, the students were very surprise to see the new set up for the resource center and how I was able to teach so many classes Math Skills. The material made it possible for the students to print out assignments directly from the textbook website, which is a major plus because all math supplement materials are on-line. In addition, the materials help me prepare for my lesson in advance. The transition within my math lessons are much better and I have less behavior problems. The students feel much better about their school and their classroom. There were evidence of a lot of improvement for the Benchmark Assessment and Post Assessment for Unit 1. This project has made it possible to begin another project every Wednesday after-school called "Math Skills for Life" where I give students real life problems to solve in preparation for the end of year State Exam. The students really appreciate what you did for them. I love to see them smile and not get frustrated. Thanks again..”

The students and staff have improved as a team, increased their focus in class, were more collaborative, and demonstrated an increased in moral because of the support you all have given us this school year. The projects in classes involved the implementation of the new common core state standards, the infusion of games, and hands-on projects in a team building environment.

    The students used a variety of strategies, including post-its, index cards, graphing boards, and chart paper to solve systems of equations. In the lower grades, the students will focus on fluency skills.
