By providing at-risk youth an outlet at the same time you provide whole-brain education through music, you create a learning environment that is engaging and fun. These kids love music and if they had more keyboards, they could all take part in honing basic skills necessary for playing piano and reading music. Two hemispheres are engaged when one actively plays music. The practice of playing music has been correlated to higher test scores and overall intelligence. A fundamental part of music is the pattern of black and white keys on a piano. I am requesting help getting keyboards for every student to use in order for them to visually recognize this pattern.
