Right now the problem of violence, particularly from the police, is important for students to understand. We live in a racist society and our black and brown children need to know how to navigate that. This book explores those topics and will help students to find their voice in our current society. The recent murder of George Floyd by Derek Chauvin underscores the problem of systemic racism in our society. This book, The Hate U Give, explores the topic of the black lives matter movement and shows how important it is for every person to use his or her voice to speak out, no matter how inconsequential they may think they are.
