  I apologize for my delay in writing this, but I'd like to thank everyone for their support of Mater East and our pursuit of outfitting our new gym with new chairs that will make us look our best on game days. .

  While it's unfortunate that our basketball teams did not get a chance to compete in our gym this year, our volleyball team will soon be competing! Our school will look the part of a strong athletic program thanks to your support.

  With our new iPads we've been able to record all of our games this season for our middle school team and the players really love seeing themselves playing when we do film sessions after each game. (They're even making highlight videos of themselves now and putting them on TikTok)

  Soon we will be moving into our high school tackle program where our players will again reap the benefits of their community's generosity. Thank you for the support. We hope to see you at a game soon!”

• Building Health Skills

  I am a health/PE teacher and a coach for football, basketball and volleyball. I tend to focus my DonorsChoose efforts on those sporting pursuits, but this year I decided I needed to also focus on the academic side of my job. I was blessed to get two different projects funded for my classroom. In addition to some intoxication glasses, these posters and diagrams will help highlight our my teachings of the body system to my students. Sometimes students are scared to ask, but with the posters hanging around the room they can answer their own curiosities. The heart rate watches will be fun to learn with too once we're able to return to the classroom.

• Opening Our Eyes

  I am particularly excited about this project. I've used "beer goggles" before for programming purposes when I was an RA in college. However, I've never been able to get my hands on any. When I noticed they are sold on Amazon I got very excited knowing that I could ask the DonorsChoose community for help.

  As always, that community blessed me and my students by fulfilling our project goal and funding us 4 pairs of these goggles. Now when we teach about the dangerous effects of underage drinking and binge drinking I can have some real meaning-making moments they can connect to and remember. Thank you so much!”

• Training Camp

  Funded May 28, 2020

  Thank you for the generosity and support of our athletic program. As we begin practicing in these unprecedented times, it will be great to have the training equipment necessary to get our flag football athletes ready for the upcoming season.

  All this equipment will be used to enhance our agility, conditioning, elusiveness, strength and overall competitiveness. We have never had true training aids for our quarterbacks so I am excited to see how our athletes adapt to those. We hope our supporters can come and see us in action this year once the world starts returning to normal.”

• We Have It in the Bag!

  I know this thank you package is a little overdue, but thank you for your support this last year on this project.

  Update on the hockey front- my students have loved it! Unfortunately we did not get to finish our floor hockey club in the spring to the the Covid concerns. However, I had so many students in PE who were very excited about hockey- most of which had never played before.

  As far as the flag football equipment goes, well.... we won the championship so I guess it helped! The wristbands really helped our kids.
