Let There Be Sound!
Funded Nov 5, 2018Wow! I can't thank you enough for the wonderful donation you provided for the 4th grade students here at Marysville. Your gracious gift has given 40 students the ability to utilize our class set of computers on a much more independent basis and will impact countless amounts of students for years to come.
Many of our students do not have access to technology at home or are limited to utilizing technology from a phone or tablet. We are lucky enough to have a class set of computers shared between the two 4th grade classrooms. Up until your donation, we had to scramble to find headphones so students could use these computers for various individualized learning programs without disrupting one another. The headache of either going out and purchasing headphones for each student or asking the students to budget and find their own was too much. Now that we have a class set this has alleviated a huge burden from the shoulders of the staff and students here. Thank you!
Students were so excited when the headphones arrived and have taken great care and responsibility over their new tools. I've assigned each student a number in class that coincides with the headphone of the same number, it is then the responsibility of the student to make sure the headphones are maintained and stored properly. In addition to the added sense of responsibility, students can now access their individualized math, reading, and writing programs without the hassle of fighting with tangled cords or dealing with headphones that don't actually produce sound. Thank you SO much! The impact of this donation will live on for years to come.”

Funded Dec 15, 2017Wow, what a great experience my class had today! Because of your gracious donations, my students - and the students in all of the 4th/5th grade classrooms (approximately. 90 kiddos) - had a day they'll never soon forget. We had beautiful weather as we walked to the movie theater and were greeted by the manager with tickets, popcorn, drinks, and fruit snacks - all courtesy of YOU, the donors!
The biggest highlight from today was getting to hear the students compare the film "Wonder" to the book. Many of them had some audible 'ah ha!' moments today in the theater when they saw the on screen scenes from their favorite parts in the book. Upon return, we've discussed the similarities and differences between the book and the film, as well as sharing our favorite moments and omitted scenes. Our conversations have been rich and engaging, and have also given students a little sneak peak into the process of adapting a book into a film. Not lost of them, of course, was the true meaning behind this beautiful story: Kindness.
If you haven't had the opportunity to see this film or read the story, I highly encourage you to do so. Sharing it with my students has made a tremendous difference to the climate of my classroom. As we sit down today to fill out and discuss comparisons and share our learning from the film, I am filled with gratitude that I was able to enjoy this experience with them thanks to the WONDERful donors in my life. Thank you so very much for making a huge difference in the lives of my students.”

Who Was Anne Frank?
Funded Jan 26, 2015I can't thank you enough for your kind and generous donation to my classroom. The student's in my class raved about the wonderful "Who was Anne Frank?" books. The reading level and graphic sources included in each book were perfect for 4th grade. Without these books, the student's would not have had the knowledge to fully comprehend the in-school day field trip presented by the Jewish Heritage Museum.
Not only were these books beneficial to my classroom, but I was able to share them with my teaching partner's 4th graders and the other 4th/5th grade class as well. In addition, my future 4th & 5th grade classes will be able to use these books to teach them more about Jewish history, and culture and the life of Anne Frank.
Having a book in each student's hand - rather than having a book read aloud to them - allowed for students to really connect with Anne Frank and the Jewish culture. Students were engaged throughout our discussions, could refer back to sections and pages, and make lots of strong connections when the folks from the JHM came to visit. From the bottom of my heart, and the heart of my wonderful students, thank you for your generous contribution!”

Add a Little Wonder to Mr. B's Classroom
Funded Sep 12, 2014THANK YOU DONORS!
Adding a 'Little bit of Wonder' to my classroom this year has created vast improvements in the relationships being built in our class community. The culture of our room has become one filled with kindness and empathy. Socially, my students are able to look at problems from different perspectives, which, has helped translate into less time focused on managing behaviors and more time focused on learning curriculum.
From a grade level standpoint, this book has opened the students up to many difficult vocabulary terms, challenging them to dig deep and learn these new, rich, words through many a class discussion. Our reading of Wonder has opened us up for some very rich classroom conversations surrounding fairness, kindness, equity, and equality. Students are also asked to complete some open ended questions in a journal that go along with the text.
My students could not be more grateful for the opportunity to read this book. You have provided them with a life changing text that will have an effect on them for many years to come. As we wrap up our read aloud each day, students are constantly asking when we get to continue on with the reading, they are all eager to find out what will happen next. I cannot begin to thank you enough for the gift you have given!”
