The Virtual Scientist
Funded Jan 21, 2012Thanks so much for your wonderful donation to our secondary school life and biological science program. The students were so excited and eager to participate in the use of the new technology. By previewing questions and diagrams of dissections and experiments with software and the Smartboard, student interaction was immense. The students really enjoyed being able to see the scientific processes at work before actually doing the experiment or investigation. This software provides a great supplement to the textbook and daily notes and discussion.
Thanks again for your generosity ”

This classroom project was brought to life by Wasserman Foundation and 22 other donors. The Eyes Have It!
Funded Jan 21, 2012Thank you so much for your support in helping our students experience the amazing structure and form of the mammalian eye.
Through your kind and generous monetary donation, the middle and high school students under my guidance were able to explore the inner component parts that make up the pig, sheep and cow eye.
This included an examination of the layers of muscles and connective tissue surrounding and protecting the eye as well as the cornea, lens and retina too.
Without your help the students would not have had such an exciting opportunity in science class this year.”
With gratitude,
Mr. Belinsky
This classroom project was brought to life by Wasserman Foundation and 27 other donors.Leaping Into their Futures!
Funded Jan 31, 2012Thank you so much for donating to our dissection project. The students spent time exploring the world of living organisms this year in biology and life science. They loved having the opportunity to explore the internal anatomy of many of these invertebrates and vertebrates by dissecting the preserved specimens themselves.
Without your contribution to our project along with that of the Wasserman Foundation, we would not have had the chance to enjoy such a successful school year !
The students and I are grateful for your contribution to our science class !”
With gratitude,
Mr. Belinsky
Have a Heart!
Funded May 12, 2011Simply put, thank you. With the vertebrate heart dissections we will have come to the fruition of months worth of investigations.
We began this semester in biology with invertebrate open circulatory systems by dissecting much simpler organisms. This began with the pacific spiny lobster (panuliris interruptus). We reviewed crustacean anatomy and physiology and the open circulatory system of these cryptic, rock lobsters. During early November we examined the annelids focusing on the anatomy of the common nightcrawler.
Now we are underway with the mammals. We first focused on the evolution of the closed circulatory system in vertebrates by reviewing the frog's three chambered heart. The students are now extremely motivated to dissect and explore the four chambered sheep and pig hearts.
As I mentioned last year when you graciously funded the project, Sherman Oaks Center for Enriched Studies has a student population that is predominately minority. Science has heretofore taken a "back seat" in many of the students educational past. This will be the only experience many of them with dissecting throughout their entire education. For others, it will provide the spark and needed to pursue a future career in surgery, medicine or zoology.
I am sending a few pictures along with this letter. Thanks for making this a reality for them and the next generation of young scholars.
