  • Access to Reading

    Funded Jun 3, 2019

I am eternally grateful for your support and generous hearts in supporting high students literacy. The equipment that you helped donate to our classroom is working beyond my expectations and the students are loving it. You helped donate a Qball and 2 read along stations for our classroom. The Qball is a interactive and engaging talking piece that allows students to be heard in the classroom. During my lessons, affirmation Thursdays, and Instagram share out the students use the Qball microphone to share their response. The Qball has also helped with public speaking anxiety because the students have a comfortable ball that acts as a distraction for them.

The 2 read along stations might seem to be a elementary tool, but my students and I love it. As a Special Education teacher I need to be able to modify and accommodate lessons to the students abilities. The read along station helps me differentiate the lesson by pre-recording any reading material for the students. For example, I have used it to pre-record myself reading their article for English and their test. Many of my students require read aloud and this tool helps me meet their IEP needs. I have also used the read along station during our 3 minutes of self-regulatory meditation, students are able to listen to a body scan video as they get their minds and bodies ready for learning.

Once again, I want to thank all of you for supporting my mission on closing the academic achievement gap and bring equitable and rigorous content to ALL students.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Banales

  • Non-Traditional Games

    Funded Apr 20, 2018

My students loved the backyard games! They were so excited to finally have a laptop cart, that will protect them and make it easier to transport. They are looking forward to learning new games that they can show their family and stay active. The students have expressed how happy and loved they felt by the donations of strangers, they have felt so grateful that people have deemed them important for new equipment.

When they saw the new equipment and games, they were so shocked to have new equipment. For them to receive new equipment, is an opportunity to learn how to take proper care of their materials and to take pride and ownership of their school. Their school environment can be discouraging because it is outdated and worn down, so it is inspiring for them to see new equipment because they know that they are valued and cared for.

The students are eagerly looking forward to using the equipment for our upcoming field day. I had a few students suggesting to use the laptops as guest sign ins, score keepers, etc. The students are brainstorming new activities and events that they can show off their new equipment. My students are forever grateful for this donation, some students have said how excited they are for their younger siblings who will be coming through our middle school in the following years. This is a gift that will be giving back to the community for years to come!”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Banales

  • Goooaaalll For a Good Cause!

    Funded Mar 27, 2018

My students love soccer! They were so excited to use the goals and soccer balls to have a soccer lesson. If they could, they would play soccer all year long. When they saw the new supplies, they were so excited to have new equipment. For them to receive new equipment, is an opportunity to learn how to take proper care of their materials and to take pride and ownership of their school. Their school environment can be discouraging because it is outdated and worn down, so it is inspiring for them to see new supplies because they know that they are valued and cared for.

The students are eagerly looking forward to participating in an upcoming soccer tournament, so they can continue to use the new supplies.”

    With gratitude,

  • Chromebooks-Special Education Class

    Funded Jan 17, 2017

First and foremost I want to thank you all for helping out my cause and you have no idea what technology does for my students. I am a true believer that ALL students even those in high poverty schools and students with disabilities should be given the same type of education as other students in our great country. It should not depend upon your zip code what type of quality education you will receive. All of you have given my students the possibility to develop their computer skills that are needed in our world today. I look forward to differentiating all my lessons to a greater depth and really tailor my students learning based to their needs. The chromebooks will allow my students to learn how to use all the google apps like docs, slides, and google classroom. I am looking forward to introducing computer coding skills into my class as well. For example, the chromebooks will help one of my students with becoming a more fluent reader because of his vision disability the technology will allow him to zoom in on text and it will always be at the appropriate text for him. So I look forward to seeing his growth with these chromebooks. Once aging your donation was not made in vain and students smiles and academic growth will be proof of your giving!”

    With gratitude,

I teach Physical Education to 7th and 8th grade students at a Title I school in Los Angeles where 100% of our students receive free breakfast and lunch. My students have a range of physical abilities that have not been properly nurtured for because of the lack of equipment and physical education. My students are the leaders of tomorrow because they know what it's like to have to work hard in order to be successful. Their home life may not make it easy for them, but they have the thirst for learning and the desire to make the best of the hand that they have been dealt. All my students are capable of learning and deserve the same opportunity as their peers to further their knowledge in health and develop new skills. My students need to be exposed to different games and cultures that will broaden their perspective and make them better citizens for tomorrow.
