The requested resources will help students with their academic learning in light of COVID-19 by giving them an opportunity to access classic and modern literature. Homer's Odyssey and Romeo and Juliet touch on universal themes that still apply to students today: family, love, loyalty; we all are affected by those, and The Giver, The Hobbit, and Harry Potter touch on those same themes. Allowing students to read these classics will help them see who they are and find themselves in the world while making connections with others. Using graphic novels to help teach students reaches some struggling readers who would otherwise not participate in the class activities. Many of my students speak Spanish as their first language. By providing them with more opportunities to read in their native tongue, I will better be able to help them with reading and writing in English 9.
