I teach in a small school in a beautiful and culturally rich community called the Lower East Side in the downtown area of Manhattan. Those of us from the neighborhood call it "the lowah" and it's a community that I've grown to love since I first stepped foot in the area as a student in 1993, being a part of the Afterschool program at the Henry Street Settlement, getting my first job there in 1996, and being a member of Americorps in 2000 when I was a freshman in college. Life has taken me to so many different jobs and parts of New York but it has brought me back to my old stomping grounds in LES. I'm grateful and feel extremely blessed to be able to teach in my old neighborhood but I need the help of generous donors to give my students everything they need in the classroom to be successful in language acquisition. Many times, no matter how much you prepare for your classes there is always an idea that comes to mind that is beneficial for student growth and having a printer in the classroom helps me provide that immediately in the heat of a lesson. Visual learners require visual stimulus and providing them with multi colored examples, helps them absorb the information quicker. Partner with me in equipping this generous of young people to be ready to face the world that awaits them!!
