  • It's a Bird! Getting Closer to Nature with Binoculars

    Funded Nov 7, 2015

I am so excited to tell you we took the binoculars out for a spin today! We had a small group of student outside trying to look for and identify birds (it's getting cold here, so we did not have too much luck!). It was amazing having access to this equipment, to just grab them, hand them out and step outside with the students and just allow us to bring an entire world closer to their eyes.

I am so humbled by your donation and the years to come which this equipment and technology will allow students to discover a world that would otherwise be inaccessible to most of them. I am looking forward to starting a bird watching club or simply find and identify birds or other mammals on our field trips to the river, or even explore our urban skyline or look at the moon, all because of your donation.

I hope to inspire and allow these young men and women to self discover and learn new observational and analytical skills, to dare imagine and think of everything that makes our world more beautiful, and bring it closer- thanks to you and our binoculars you so generously help make possible.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Arsenie

  • Drone Science

    Funded Jul 24, 2015

Thank you so so very much for your generosity and kindness. I am so incredibly lucky and honored by how grateful many of you have been in donating to this "unusual" project. We just received our drone and the students were positively and electrically excited. We are looking forward to taking this drone out in our front yard and flying it for the very first time in the next week. The students are already coming up with ideas on what to do and how to use it. Some want to see our school block (our motto is "a block long and a world wide" from above, others are curious about the pressure and temperature as the drone rises, while others are just fascinated by the technology of quadrocopters and want to learn more about how they work. No matter what, the mission of this project is already achieved- students are fascinated, their curiosity piqued and their desire to learn more truly pushed. All of this is happening because of your generosity. Thank you.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Arsenie

  • Hi Mom, Can You Hear Me Now?

    Funded Jul 14, 2015

I am grateful and honored to be able to write this thank you note to all of you, the donors that made this resource possible. Thanks to you and your generosity, my students and I can now travel in the safety and confidence your donation will help us assure. Thanks to your kindness, we can now go on any field trip, local or international, in the city or country, knowing that a parent, an emergency or any need that comes up is within the reach of a satellite phone and a phone call away. In the next two years we have many local field trips planned, as well as two major international trips that include countries in Europe, Costa Rica and/or Hawaii. My students and I look forward in sharing our adventures with you while being able to fearlessly experience the world and all it has to offer, no matter what. Thank you very very much again for your generosity and kindness.”

    With gratitude,

  • Making Our Own TED Talks in Academic Decathlon!

    Funded Nov 5, 2014

First and foremost, thank you again for your generosity and gracious donation to make our project and class training possible. It is with genuine excitement that we find ourselves in the middle of our academic decathlon season and in between competitions, a time when students practice presenting information in a formal and informal way, in and out of class. This is the time that our students are taking advantage of the resources you so amazingly facilitated. Every morning and in class, the students film their presentations and speeches using this technology, and then replay that video so they can perfect their public speaking skills a la TED. Not only were the students surprised when coming face to face with our new iPad and Swivl at first, but they are fully embracing the notion of presenting in public, replaying back their speeches and truly embracing the TED style. Because of this donation and this technology, they are becoming more confident and better, more competitive at presenting in public. They are learning to self-reflect, to grow and critique each other in order to become better orators. THANK YOU once again for making this skill more acquirable and truly taking advantage and exposing these students to the most current and modern academic technology available.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Arsenie

  • Science is NOT Black and White!

    Funded Sep 23, 2010

It has now been a few weeks since receiving and using the printer you so kindly donated to our classroom. We have started work on microscopy, the cell, photosynthesis, mitosis and now science fair. I have to say once again, that words cannot describe how grateful we are, I am, for your very generous support. My students (and occasionally our classroom bunny Chuck, as you can see in some of the attached pictures) were able to use full colored pages for organism identification sheets, stages of mitosis and print full colored sheets for handouts for photosynthesis and their microscopy tests. Our printer will also work extra hard for us with science fair coming, printing titles, pictures, graphs and tables to be used in our competition.

Thank you once again for a most generous and heartfelt gift, one that my students and I can enjoy for many years to come. ”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Arsenie
