  • Podcasting for Environmental Change

    Funded Aug 13, 2019

We are so looking forward to brining this project to life. We are currently partnering with our school's digital media academy and a surprise partnership (can't say much yet!). As we speak, students are exploring media, thinking and writing prompts and developing what our podcast environment will look like in content and presentation. We look forward in sharing this work with you. THANK YOU so much for your generosity and kindness, for making this endeavor possible, and for giving our students a voice to share their stories, passion and what drives them to speak out.”

  • Sizzling Classroom No More!

    Funded Aug 6, 2019

We are now entering the 4th week of school and in typical Chicago fashion, we have had our Indian summer hit us full on- with 85+ outside temperatures, a temperamental (pun intended!) chiller system that is unpredictably working and a cool classroom like we've never had before. THANK YOU so much for making our lives bearable, even enjoyable- a classroom where the focus is learning and not the thermometer, a place where I n longer have to have a laminated sig that says "Yes, I know it's HOT!" adorn the media cart. Thank you so much for your generosity and for making the students feel supported, cared and loved through your donation and your incredible thoughts shared here on DonorsChoose. THANK YOU so much again.”

  • World Perspectives in 360!

    Funded May 22, 2019

For the longest time my students and I have used 360 degrees images as part of our Google Expeditions work, as well as some of the 360 pictures I took in my Iceland expeditions with a loaned camera that we still refer to. Now, thanks to you, we can take our own 360 images and video and allow students to explore that side of science; it's immersive, it's unique and it's relevant to a generation that uses video and audio content as mean of information access. What better way to engage students than a 360 video or image about places, concepts and ideas they care about. Thank you for your generosity and your amazing donations- we look forward to making this camera part of our classroom arsenal of media and tech for a long time to come. THANK YOU.”

  • Darwin, Muir and Goodall... The Power of Field Notebooks

    Funded Aug 13, 2019

We just started our senior year and as we prepare to embark on the second year of a two year course, seniors are required to head out and design, carry out and conclude an investigation of their own choosing. It is daunting, difficult and it is supposed to teach the methodologies and strategies to propel them into a university classroom. This year, all of this was somewhat bearable for the moment we passed out our new lab field books- something we have never done before- one place, one space for them to write down all data gathered, observations, conclusions, impressions- just like a real scientist. Thank you for making this step, and process possible- the students were truly excited to begin their journeys in our course- all thanks to you.”

  • Printing Power 3.0

    Funded May 22, 2019

As we wrap up another school year and am busy here printing and prepping for next year's group- I am humbled and thankful for all the donations that have enabled us to be able to print, use our printer and continue to provide students with so many needed resources. Some are labs, some are class handouts, some are personal statements for college- or some are gigantic, year-long resources for our Academic Decathlon, resources without which we would not be able to do what we do every day as teachers, and students would not be able to successfully achieve as pupils. I am so thankful by your generosity- I can't say that enough. Thank you.”

  • Solar Power Saves the Day

    Funded Feb 28, 2019

As we begin our energy and climate change unit in our AP and IB environmental science classes, we will now have an opportunity to showcase one renewable, alternative source of energy that we never have been able to demonstrate and explore in our classroom before. Thanks to you we now have a solar panel and power bank to demonstrate the capabilities, benefits and shortcomings of a technology we often hear so much about. Students will be able to calculate energy return in investment and the cost of energy generated using a solar panel. In addition, this energy bank will be able to power our cell phones, portable microscopes and even our classroom drone when we are out in our annual field trips to the Chicago river and lake Michigan. Thank you so much for giving us this opportunity to have something so incredibly unique and new in our classroom arsenal.

Thank you very much for your kindness and generosity.”

  • Deep Diving Environmental Science

    Funded Mar 1, 2019

I am writing this two days after we finally received our underwater drone (ROV) and I cannot express enough the humble, yet giant thank you I hope I can convey through these words. It has truly been a while since I have seen students so excited and genuinely intrigued. We no have a piece of new technology that we now can use whenever we want or whenever we go out on Lake Michigan or the Chicago River- I showed them some footage from friends and connections through Nat Geo that have used these with students to begin doing underwater assessments and research and it is truly magical. It really opens up conversations and it really allows the students to dream of possibilities that are rooted in access to resources and technology. It was so incredible to see genuine curiosity as we got our boxes and opened them up and really planned to think about ways of using it in the spring semester as we venture out of the classroom.

Thank you so so much for your generosity and your constant support- I am humbled by your kindness and consistent donations to allow us educators to work with students in ways that we otherwise could not.

    Thank you so so much.”

  • Power Printing 2.0

    Funded Dec 30, 2018

Thank you so much for your generous donation and match. Because of you we can continue to breath new life into our classroom printer and allow students a hand-on approach to studying, college and test prep, as well as printing our season materials for Academic Decathlon. We are trying a new paperless approach, however there is nothing that gives students the ability to edit, underline, annotate and process text like paper. We are privileged to have gotten funding for a printer previously and often the only hurdle is getting toner to keep it going. because of you, we can now to that. THANK YOU so much.”

  • APES Go APE for the AP Exam with Albert!

    Funded Oct 16, 2018

Thank you once again for your generosity. About this time of the year we get tired and the last thing on our minds is doing more test prep for our AP exam. Thanks to you, this year is shaping up with more excitement than ever before- doing test prep online, with a goal in mind: earn college credit. Thanks to you, we now have a subscription to Albert.io, an online test prep interface that allows students to progress at their own pace, exploring concepts they know,, while focusing on the ones they need improvement. I cannot wait to see how this is going to lead more success on the exam and even higher scores on the SAT!

Thank you so much for your kindness, generosity and help for all of our students and their success.”

  • More Environmental Science Research in Our Backyard

    Funded Aug 5, 2018

Thank you so much for giving us a chance to bring new, advanced technology to our students. As we begun the year, and a new ecology unit, students discussed how ecologists monitor and assess wild life when completing surveys on populations, behavior, etc. Because of your donation, students can now put some of those techniques into play and actually employ these technologies right here on our campus. We are extremely grateful to be able to peek into the lives of our urban animals and birds in ways that we were not able to before. Thank you so much for supporting our curiosity and love for science.”

Thank you in advance for all the help you can provide to my students and their needs in our classroom. I believe the road to adulthood and college starts with a top notch education where the student is exposed to maximum-impact learning and learning strategies. With your help and all you may provide, they will make it there faster!!! Thank you greatly for your generosity and kindness.
