  • Hybrid Learning For The Win!

    Funded May 24, 2021

We have recently returned to the classroom and yet again facing a wave of students staying at home due to COVID- and still- again facing a round of remote instruction for students who are quarantined. However, because of your generosity I am now able to move around our giant classroom using these mobile wireless microphones and sound just as clear for the students in front of me, as well as the students at home. Unlike before when I practically had to yell to be heard at home, I am now able to hold instruction and conversations in a more seamless and effective way, from groups, to individual answers. Than you so much for your generosity and kindness.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Arsenie

  • New Books for 2020

    Funded Dec 2, 2020

As we begun to come back to class this past spring, I was so excited to share our resources we received thanks to you- with my students, and in particular with the seniors. Alas, so few decided to embrace hybrid learning, that only a handful returned to in person learning and doing anything as a whole class was harder than anticipated. However, thanks to you- every single senior received one of your books you funded as a graduation gift. They were not only amazed at this gesture, but were also incredibly grateful for your donation, the only reason why we were able to make this happen. Thank you so much for your commitment to our class and to public education and for your continued support.”

  • An Ocean (and a Lake!) in Our Classroom 2

    Funded Aug 9, 2020

As I sit here and write this at the end of our first week of remote teaching, I am nostalgic for the days of last year (and years past) when my students can sit, talk, interact together and bond over common hobbies, likes and passions. As I reflect on the effects this pandemic will have our pedagogy, instruction and our own students' learning needs, I am confident that when we do return to the physical classroom our students will have the opportunity to once again bond, work, laugh and share these resources you all so generously donated to our classroom. I am so very thankful for your generosity and kindness and cannot wait to update you once again when we return.”

  • Apples for Remote Teaching

    Funded Aug 12, 2020

I don't even know where to start! How could I be doing what I do now without this ipad and the accessories it came with. I am floored at how much I didn't know I needed this- a second screen, a space and device to use for equations and math in my physics class, a place to design instruction and a device to keep me connected- multiple breakout rooms, multiple meetings, annotating PDFs for students, drawing, pointing to things, but also displaying math and interactives right on my desk for my students to partake. THANK YOU so much for this tool- I am beyond grateful for the timing it came at and all the bonuses it provides in remote teaching. THANK YOU SO MUch!”

  • Our Stories- Our Books

    Funded Oct 23, 2020

I just went back to our school building yesterday for the first time in a while and was greeted by the myriad of boxes containing these amazing books. For a cloudy, dreary monday, these packages totally brightened my spirits. I cannot wait to return with students in person and start these difficult, personal and often uncomfortable conversations about our lives, their stories, their future, their hopes and dreams and anything that we can thing of- after reading stories with characters that resemble our students/themselves! I am so pumped to create a story telling space where we can dive into these texts and examine ourselves and the society we live in, address and talk about racism, classism, elitism and all the issues that surround our students and their unique lives. We'll keep you posted- I have a feeling some of these books will awaken some fantastic conversations.”

  • More Books for Our Young Scientists

    Funded Mar 6, 2020

As we're all home, students included, and as remote teaching unfolds, I am reminded to be grateful for all your generosity and donations. I am humbled to think that because of you, and your support, all students can no receive a book at home for them to enjoy as part of our remote learning. Because of you, all of my students will receive their summer assignments and a book of their choice to engage in and read- committing to never stop learning, even in the middle of a pandemic. As many of my students exclaimed when these book arrived the week before we left- there were even three or four titles about the pandemic of 1918- and looking back 6 weeks ago- a timely coincidence and one that would not have happened- and all the ensuing conversations- if it were not for your kindness, support and generosity to our cause- science education. Thank you for making it better, more exciting and for giving us materials students can enjoy, even when at home.”

  • New Science News!

    Funded Mar 5, 2020

Thank you so much for your generosity and commitment to continue to help my students have access to truly innovative ways to learn- including this project around subscriptions to current scientific magazines and journals. Two years ago we were lucky to have received funding for a similar project and ever since my students avidly read our collecting of magazines, whenever a free moment arises, looking forward to every new issue- from Astronomy magazines to National Geographic. Alas, we did not have new subscriptions last year, so thanks to you I got to clean up our magazine racks in anticipation of our newly funded magazines- whenever they arrive and whenever we go back to school. I look forward to yet again have students in my room exploring science and read the wealth of content- thank to you and your generosity.”

  • Personal Stories for Change

    Funded Dec 4, 2019

We are currently in the second semester of brainstorming and planning for our podcasting broadcast project that is upcoming quarter 4 of this school year. We are currently arguing, engaging in conversation and seeing where the winds of creativity take us. We're so thankful that even this step is only made possible by your commitment to our cause and our want for a new student led initiative that this podcasting club will eventually become. Thank you so much for empowering young students to even begin the thought process on what their voices have to say about their stories and the impact they will want for the change they want to see. Thank you very much for all your help and support.”
