  • Reading About Us

    Funded Nov 30, 2021

Thank you so much for your kind donations. We are building a library and these books are an exciting addition. Your kindness and generosity in providing books to students of color will go a long way in opening discussions and discovering that others look like them, talk like them and have similar experiences.

Their are also several history themed books that will make them look critically what happened to the inhabitants of the islands during colonization. I know that sounds serious, but here we have some serious history buffs.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Parino

  • Reading About The United States

    Funded Nov 30, 2021

Thank you so much for your kind donations. Our students are learning that they can read for enjoyment. But boy do they love history. The books will be so much more exciting than text books and students will be building their literacy skills while they focus on their adoptive country.”

  • English Learners Get Back to School

    Funded Jul 11, 2020

Thank you for your donations. I don't know what September will bring, but I want to be ready for all scenarios. The resource guide will help me deliver quality Special Education for English Learners whether I am in the classroom, teaching remotely or doing a combination of both. In any event teaching time will be shortened and it is imperative that I deliver high quality services to my disabled students.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Parino

  • JS Can Develop Reading Skills at Home

    Funded May 5, 2020

Thank you so much for your donation. During remote learning, I am unable to give JS the attention and tactile activities that we were engaging in in school.

Now he will have similar material with directions in Spanish so that his mother and grandmother can help him. Also, Johan can ask me questions about what he needs help with during our remote online meetings.”

  • Get on the Bus to the Museum of Natural History

    Funded Feb 20, 2020

Thank you for your donations. We are looking forward to going to the Museum and exploring Harvard Square. The students have been working hard this school year and they are reading to get out of the building. We are especially looking forward to the Evolution Exhibit and seeing our text books in action.”

  • Using Imagination to Learn English

    Funded Oct 6, 2019

Thank you again for supporting my classroom. The Lego Storybook kit is a huge hit. Students have been making lego creations and then telling a story to match the creation. One student made a scene with a horse, a girl and a wall. Part of this English Learner story went like this," I am going to make a fence for the horse to jump over. The girl is going to ride the horse." Pretty good I think for someone who has been speaking English for less than 2 years! We also used the sand paints to make beautiful pictures. A student painted a picture with a flower, grass and a rainbow. It was such a peaceful picture. What made the picture more amazing was the student's emotional disability leaves him very angry almost all of the time. Thanks to your generosity, he was also able to frame his picture and bring it home as a reminder of a calm place. We are looking forward to using and reusing all of the supplies to improve language development and allow opportunities to be creative.”

  • A Functional Classroom Requires Supplies

    Funded Oct 24, 2019

Thank you for your generous support. As an urban district, often it is difficult to get supplies. The supplies you donated will go along way in providing structured and creative writing opportunities for the students. The students will be able to demonstrate their ongoing skills in English Development by making pictures using colored pencils, markers and paint and then they can they dictate their story to me. Thank you also for the Clorox Wipes. With winter approaching and the students spending more and more time indoors, it is important to wipe down material so that we don't miss valuable learning time. Thanks again from the bottom of our hearts.”

  • Touching and Doing Science

    Funded Sep 5, 2018

We were all excited to receive three boxes for physics. The contents would be a welcome change from our text book. The students carefully opened the boxes, read the instruction covers and looked through the contents.

The students immediately discussed how they would design their egg drop challenge and we had some discussion about where we would exactly drop the eggs: maybe the stairwell or maybe just from a ladder.

Next up was the electromagnetic kit. The box was heavy and the electromagnetic was interesting to look at. But that was as far as we got. "Mrs. Parino let's do the magnets now!" was the chorus. So we read an activity and completed the demonstration. Electromagnet hands on activities are important because in this case seeing is believing.

We are enjoying the kits immensely. Thank you for thinking of my students.”

  • Creating a Positive Mindset

    Funded Jun 20, 2018

What a wonderful gift you have given to our students. With this resource, we will be able to assist in creating a feeling of self confidence and never give up attitude. Our school is developing a community of learners, teachers and staff that will utilize a positive growth mindset and set an example for our younger students.”

  • The Proud

    Funded Dec 31, 2016

Thank you again for your generous donations. The students were very eager to receive their shirts. Once I double checked their sizes for the order, students approached me daily to ask when the t shirts would come. The company that we ordered the t shirts from was very prompt and they arrived within two weeks of your donation. The t shirt design was exactly what I had anticipated.

Roll out of the shirts went smoothly and everybody was happy with their size. What was amazing was the students choosing to taking off their collared uniform shirts (if they had something under them) and putting the new t shirt on or students just putting the new t shirt over the uniform or going to the rest room to change out of the old shirt and put on the new shirt. The day of the roll out I would guess that 75 of the 87 students were wearing their shirts.

Since the arrival of the t shirts we have had much less uniform refusal, which infraction is cause for lunch detention and loosing points in our level system. Students now have that extra shirt in case the other is in the laundry. They much prefer the t shirt over the collared shirt. All in all this project was a great success and it was made possible by you!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Parino

My students are aged 14-22 placed in a substantially separate setting. Each has been diagnosed with an emotional disability. Most of the students struggle with poverty and learning a new language. My classroom needs lots of basic supplies like paper and pens. But we also need supplies that will make us feel like a regular high school. I'd like to see more science equipment and art material. We also need a laminator to save our program specific posters.
