  • New Year, New Library

    Funded Dec 18, 2024

I always feel like I am repeating myself with these letters. Your generosity and dedication to our library is so much appreciated. Our new labels and backstops have made such an improvement to our shelves. Our nonfiction books have been circulating more and more, and our shelves are neater... even after the third graders enthusiastically search for their new favorite Dork Diaries volume! Every project makes our library so much better. It is always nice to have people comment on how bright and welcoming our space is. And that's all because of you.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Birdoff

  • Welcome Back to the Library!

    Funded Sep 19, 2024

I don't think I've ever been more excited! With so many kids accessing our shelves, our books were in constant disarray. Books got lodged inside other books, books got lost in the back of the shelves... It was a full time job just resetting the shelves after each class! Now with our nonskid stickers and the GORGEOUSLY sleek backstops, the books (for the most part) stay where they belong! Now kids can be guaranteed to see all our titles easily, allowing for more circulation and ease of browsing. Thank you so much for your continued generosity.”

  • Welcome to the Library!

    Funded Jan 14, 2024

While we couldn't get the letters for the sign (the price quoted was PER LETTER, not for the entire word!!) we did get some essential supplies for the library. We got more letter shelf dividers for our graphic novels (so much easier to shelve and locate books!) some barcode protectors (we had been using packing tape) and a holder for my scanner which is finally functional!

Thank you so much for your continued generosity and your belief in our small school library. We are immensely grateful for your support. Thank you so very much.”

  • Puzzling in the Library

    Funded Nov 28, 2023

We are so in love with our new puzzle table! It is the perfect size for our puzzles and our scholars. With this passive programming available, students can take a brain break while browsing in the library. Scholars and faculty alike can feel empowered to stop by for a quiet moment, feeling the satisfaction of connecting a couple pieces.

Thank you so much for believing in our school and in our library. Your generosity is so much appreciated.

We can't wait to get the rest of our puzzles out of storage and give them a new life!”

  • Little Lizzy Loves the Holidays

    Funded Nov 25, 2023

Our scholars are loving the next installment of the Little Lizzy series! Dr. Liz even got each student their very own friendship bracelet making kit! This adorable holiday story of friendship and connections will be a great addition to our scholars' home libraries.

Thank you so much for your continued support and generosity. Your help is essential to making the Mosaic Preparatory Academy Library the best library it can be.

I hope you had a warm, happy, and healthy holiday season. Happy New Year!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Birdoff

  • Browsable Bookshelves Part 3

    Funded Oct 12, 2023

I cannot begin to tell you how incredible these signs and organizers are. The kids are finding it easier to browse, my fellow librarian and I are having an easier time shelving, and the library looks amazing. The sleek design and bright illustrations on each sign make the library seem even more warm and welcoming than before.

The biggest change is the traffic in our non-fiction section! For the first time in years, students are noticing the non-fiction shelves and browsing! Thank you so much for your continued generosity. We honestly can't believe how lucky we are to have such support.

    Thank you so, so much.”

  • Browsable Bookshelves Pt. 2

    Funded Sep 18, 2023

Every time someone walks through our library's doors, they comment almost immediately on the beautiful new signs. The signs are something so simple, but they really create a coherent atmosphere and encourage browsing. Nonfiction books are now being looked at for pleasure reading, rather than just when their teacher requires them to read something true.

Moreover, shelving is a lot easier for us librarians! Now that we don't have to squint our way through the shelves to find where a book belongs, we save a lot of time!

Little by little, our library is getting closer to our vision of a relevant, accessible, calm, and welcoming space. Your generosity has made this place so special. Thank you.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Birdoff

  • Ready. Set. Print!

    Funded Sep 21, 2023

Our 3D printer is amazing. We have already made name plates and figurines and look forward to designing game pieces and more. Our Girls Who Code club is about to get started and we can't wait to create together.

The library is also host to students who come hang out during recess. They like to play games, crochet, and read. I have challenged each student to read and review 15 books throughout the school year, using different genres as a checklist. I have promised each scholar who completes the task a trophy that will also be created using the printer.

There is just so much to do with it we are so excited. Thank you again so much for your continued generosity.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Birdoff

  • Learning Library

    Funded Sep 29, 2022

This table is fantastic. It matches our library shelves perfectly, and allows us to have a usable and mobile surface to use for administrative work, sign in sheets, classwork, or maker space projects. It is so much better than the folding table we had, and a lot less dangerous! This looks like a piece of furniture, rather than an afterthought. Thanks to your generosity, the Mosaic Preparatory Academy Library is looking more and more like our vision: a warm, safe, and welcome space, filled with stories and information. Thank you so much.”

  • Celebrating Creativity

    Funded Nov 22, 2022

Our scholars are so excited (believe it or not) to have enough supplies so everyone can crochet during our lunch club! Crafters who "graduate" from beginning crochet, will now be able to have their own dedicated yarn and hook to begin working on their very own projects!

The Stranger Things coloring books are getting a lot of buzz, and students are excited to earn more book coins to purchase them from our vending machine.

The additional bulletin board will look amazing when it goes up, and even more amazing as we start displaying all the unique works our scholars create!

Thank you, as always, so so much.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Birdoff

Representation matters. It matters most especially in the library. Every child deserves to have access to both window and mirror books. At our school library, our scholars deserve up to date, award winning books that feature diverse characters and own-voices writers: books in which our scholars can see themselves. This small collection of books I have requested from a Black-owned bookstore is a great way to continue to build our school's growing library. These books will be added to our shelves for scholar circulation and read aloud during class visits to the library.
