By funding this project, you will give students the opportunity to carry individual copies of the text to bring home, read, and analyze. Through Morrison's beautiful prose, students will explore racial identity and American standards of beauty. Students will develop essential reading skills by closely analyzing Morrison's literary choices. Students will develop a deeper understanding of how literature functions as an agent for change in society. They will explore Morrison's views on racial identity and gender. By the end of the unit, students will develop college level discourse and written analysis. They will also share their insights with underclassmen who are reading a similar text.
