  • Reading to Success!

    Funded Nov 21, 2016

Before I begin telling you how I plan to use these children's literature books inside my classroom, I want to first tell you how thankful my students and I are for receiving such generous donations from kind people like yourself in order to make our lessons possible.

We were able to receive some really good children's literature books including "The Best Part of Me", "Stand Tall Molly Lou Melon", "The Name Jar", "The Girl Who Never Made Mistakes", and "The Big Test". At the beginning of the year, I like to read aloud the book "The Best Part of Me" and have my students tell me the part of themselves that they believe is the best part of them (eyes, mouth, ears, etc.) I use this as an opportunity to have my students show their writing skills. I also will use the book "The Big Test" a few days before testing in order to relieve some anxiety about our big end-of-the-year testing that will soon take place.

In my classroom, a typical reading lesson includes a guidebook lesson from our state. Students love these guidebook lessons because we are able to focus on certain characters and actions for a long period of time. We also use our Ready Common Core books that help us read about different topics each day. I am thankful for the books that I received because it allows me to change up our reading lessons and keep it interesting for my students.

I do teach inclusion students (special education needs), and these students love looking through these children books. The illustrations are really good and it grabs their attention throughout the book.

Thank you again for your generous donations! We appreciate you!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Johnson

  • White Board Exchange

    Funded Jul 24, 2016

    Dear Donors,

First, I want to thank you for being generous enough to donate to my classroom project. You have no idea how much my students and I appreciate you. My students and I are using the colored cardstock to create our very own white boards to use during our math instruction as an assessment tool. My student are able to use their white board markers to write their answers on their new boards. The glue sticks and pencils are being made available to those less fortunate students who were not provided the needed resources for third grade.

When my students first used their white boards, they were ecstatic. They loved to be able to do their work with other materials besides pencils. The faces of those students who were given glue and pencils made my day! They were excited to know that they were given those supplies.

Thank you again for your donation! God Bless You!:)”

  • Fitness in a Desk

    Funded Aug 26, 2016

    Dear Donors,

I would first like to take this opportunity to thank you for making such a generous donation to my classroom! You have supplied my third grade elementary classroom with a bouncy band for every student. My students requested bouncy bands as a way to let out extra stored up energy while sitting in a classroom for 7 hours a day. When my students learned that we were going to actually get the bouncy bands, they were ecstatic. They said comments like, "Oh my goodness, I cannot believe we are actually going to get them!" My students asked me every single day when the bouncy bands were going to come in. When they finally did come in, my students could not wait to get to school the next morning to try them out. My husband came into my classroom to help me add a bouncy band to each of my desks. The next morning, my students were so excited!! My students use the bouncy bands every day, and they are so thankful!

Once again, thank you Target for the donation! We appreciate you! :)”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Johnson

  • Third Grade Tech Teacher

    Funded Mar 9, 2016

Good News! We have finally received our new classroom materials that was donated so generously from you! We immediately got our materials in and began to put things together. My class is so excited with the new ipad station in our classroom. As I said before, our classroom ipads were in a milk crate all unorganized. Fortunately, with the help of you all, we now have all our ipads in their own drawer with their own charger. My students are super excited because now our ipads are less likely to get damaged or broken. The new tech cart allows my students to save their ipads in a safe place, so that they will be there the next day.

On a daily basis, we use our ipads in our classroom for a variety of reasons. One reason is for interventions of all subjects. For example, my students can find ebooks that interest them or continue their work on MobyMax (a website purchased by our school board to retouch on skills already taught in the classroom). We use the ipads in science to locate information on various kid websites about the topics that we cover.

When my students saw our tech cart come in, they were so excited! They had no clue we were getting it, so I was so excited to let them know that we were given this from people who cared about their education. I want to thank you for thinking of my students and my classroom. We are appreciative of all that you have done for us! God bless you all!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Johnson

  • Mrs. Morgan's 5th Grade Classroom!

    Funded Dec 16, 2013

When my students learned that we will be receiving scholastic magazines on a weekly basis, they were full of energy and enthusiasm. Because we have many students in each class, we were never fortunate enough to be able to give each student their own copy of the magazine to work with. They always had to have a copy of the magazine. However, now that we were fortunate enough to have this project funded, each student will be able to work independently with their own magazine copy.

My students are able to use this resource for many reasons. First, my students LOVE to read these magazines because they contain real up-to-date information about things that are happening all around our world. However, not only are my students using these magazine for enjoyment, they are also able to take a stand on certain situations that are presented in the magazines. For example, one magazine may include an article about "Should junk food be sold in schools?" My students will have the chance to read a take from each point of view, and then decide what they believe. Then, my students are able to write opinion pieces based off of the article.

This project help boost my classroom by providing up-to-date information that is interesting to my students. Students are interested in the material, and are enjoying reading all at the same time.”

  • Mrs. M's Class

    Funded Dec 25, 2013

When we received our classroom iPad, my students were ecstatic. They were so excited to have a little piece of technology in our classroom that not only will benefit the teacher, but also the students. Many of my students are unfortunately not able to have such luxuries in their home. This is surely a treat for all of my 100 students that I see on a daily basis.

My students and I are using our classroom iPad for many things. The first thing that I immediately decided to use it for was to implement classroom Dojo into my classroom. This is a classroom management program that allows the students to track their behavior/progress through email and online use. Each student is assigned a certain character on this website. As a teacher, I am allowed to document any negative or positive behaviors for each student. For example, if Kasey has her homework, then I can give her a 1. Also, we have been studying the Holocaust and reading the children's book, Number the Stars. My students have been enjoying the fact that they can easily access videos of times during the Holocaust.

Overall, I believe that this project has boosted my teaching and my students' learning by giving us the opportunity to explore the world outside of the classroom. Technology is a wonderful thing to have in a classroom setting, and I am extremely fortunate to have the wonderful donors who have made that dream come true!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Johnson
