  • Talking Math in First Grade

    Funded Feb 28, 2019

Our students are so excited about our new math materials! We starting using the number talks and subitizing picture/dot cards right away! They were thrilled to create visuals of math equations on the class sized rekenrek! They are motivated and enthusiastic about our new math talk time and it is all thanks to you! Thank you for investing in the future of our nation and providing funding to make learning exciting and engaging for 1st graders! We can't thank you enough. Our hearts our full and we wish you all the best!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Nance

  • First Graders Learning Through Play - Morning Tubs!

    Funded Sep 13, 2018

My first graders lit up when our new morning tub activities arrived! They have put their engineering brains to work and are creating buildings, ships, words, and so many other things with our new materials! They are thinking outside of the box, collaborating, and having fun while doing it. Starting our mornings out with engaging morning tubs has truly turned our mornings into a place of happiness and excitement! Thank you is not enough, but we are so thankful that you chose to put your hard earned money into our local classrooms!”

  • Seat Sacks + Firsties = Success!

    Funded Sep 5, 2018

Our first grade students were beyond thrilled to have our beautiful, functional, and new seat sacks! Instead of their desk overflowing out with our classroom resources, they now have space to keep everything organized. Something as simple as a seat sack has changed the way my students can now learn organization skills. We discussed what items might work best in the seat sack and now have 4-5 items that we can hold there. I'm so thankful to friends like you who invest in a child's education. The ability to stay organized and fine materials quickly will directly impact their future career goals. I'm thankful for our community of friends and family continuing to support the FSSD. Thank you again!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Nance

  • Code & Go Robots for First Grade Techies!

    Funded Jul 31, 2018

Our class can't begin to thank y'all enough for your generous support. My first graders light up when they can build mazes for Colby (the code and go mouse) during our morning tub time. Not only are they learning critical thinking and coding skills, they are learning to work with one another, communicate clearly, and share. We also use our Colby mouse for our math stations. The students have several different math games they can get to play where they answer the math problem and code the mouse to go to the sum and difference. The code and go mouse has brought new life to our math stations and morning tubs! Seeing the student smiling faces and hearing their laugh when the code goes right or wrong is absolutely priceless!

At the beginning of the year our class discussed some project ideas for this year and my wonderful students came up with some great ideas! We currently have had 2 of our projects funded for the 2018 – 2019 school year! We have brand new seat sacks for each student and now have brand new morning tub materials shipping this week! My class is thrilled and they now have a new understanding of what donations look like and how we can show our gratitude for these wonderful donations.”

  • Wiggly First Graders Need Wobble Stools!

    Funded Mar 27, 2018

Thank you so much for your support in funding our classroom project! My first graders were thrilled to open the boxes and see all of our new classroom stools! We are enjoying using the stools at our small group table. The wobble stools are a hot item in our classroom and have really helped some of wiggly students settle and focus. The new seating options have allowed for flexible seating options and engagement during small group times. Thank you again for supporting our school and most importantly some sweet kiddos!”

  • Creative Thinking and Technology for 1st Graders

    Funded Aug 20, 2017

Thank you so much for your generosity! Our first graders were SO excited to have the new Osmo kit with the coding game! They are engaged and excited during math, literacy, and coding time! Your generous donation has allowed students who may not have excess to technology have it at their fingertips daily with fun, engaging learning games on the Osmo! We are currently using the Osmo Words to practice spelling words and sight words! They LOVE the coding game and come in asking when it's their turn for coding! I'm amazed that 1st graders can code and are very successful in guiding themselves through each coding level. We have tapped into a whole new higher order thinking because of the Osmo. We can't thank you enough for making our days more engaging and fun in our 1st grade classroom!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Nance

I teach at a wonderful Title I school in Franklin Special School District. Over half of our 3rd grade students receive free and reduced-price lunch. We have students of all races, economic backgrounds, and family structures. Almost half of our 3rd grade class are bilingual in Spanish and English! I have a wonderful class of 17 bright, and eager students. We love our classroom and call it our home away from home! Many of our students receive fuel bags with food for the weekend, and we have wonderful nonprofits in place to help with other needs as they may arise. These students deserve nothing but the best as they continue their education towards finding their passion in life.
