Older schools get a bad reputation sometimes. It doesn't have internet in every room and the doors have their own special way for getting them to open. As educators and administration try to update certain aspects of the school the need of updating technology, such as calculators, gets overlooked. We have calculators, and yes they work, but as the model for math instruction advances the technology to meet those advances increase, and one cannot be left with a calculator we once used in school to accommodate the needs of our students. My students need more up to date calculators. The TI-73 version of the graphing calculator does not have certain qualities needed for now-a-day instruction that the TI-84 does. For an example: the TI-84 students would be able to use motion detectors to understand how graphs work in a real setting. The TI-73 was released in 1998/2003. That's like asking a student to write a paper and save it to a floppy disc in order to present to the class, only after they've scanned their papers for viruses. Classroom technology needs to be updated along with the way the instruction updates with being more hands on and inquisitive rather than just memorization facts.
