My students are more engaged when they have hands on materials during lessons throughout the day. Being able to provide the students with several different STEM options in our classroom will allow the students different exploration opportunities. It is sometimes difficult for my students to create things on their own without step-by-step directions on what they should be creating. Giving my students the opportunity to manipulate different types of building materials will give them more confidence to independently create projects that they are proud to share. Not only will these STEM materials be used for science exploration, but it will be integrated into our literacy block, math block, and morning work. My students will be creating different structures with these STEM materials, then elaborating and sharing with their peers through verbal communication and writing. They will display their work proudly throughout the classroom and teach others about their experiences. The problem solving skills gained from the exposure of different types of building materials will carry on with my students throughout their academic career and their lives.
