  • Tech for Distance Teaching

    Funded Aug 11, 2020

The new laptop has helped me bring lessons to life by making it easier to use programs such as jamboard, zoom whiteboard, and more.

I was in need of a touchscreen so that I could annotate as the students share their thinking. I can also make visuals of their thinking so that other students can benefit from seeing the process a peer went through to get to a response.

This laptop has made distance learning a lot easier for me while being beneficial to my students. It is also faster which allows sites in using to load more quickly, without lag time.”

  • Eyes off the Screen, Core Lit for Distance Learning!

    Funded Oct 24, 2020

I will use these books later in the year to teach Language Arts through a core literature unit. If we are still doing distance learning, it will enable me to get the students' eyes off the screen and into an actual book for part of our class time. The students will engage in many learning activities with the book, including, reading, writing, and fun activities tied to the story.

This will be the first time I teach using this book but it came highly recommended. I hope my students will enjoy it and learn a lot in a fun way.

Thank you for making this happen for my students!”

  • Core Lit for Distance Learning

    Funded Sep 16, 2020

I am so excited to use these core literature books with my students! I will be passing out the books to them at a material pick up later in December. We will begin reading it in January, after our winter break.

This is such a great book for teaching about character development, setting, problem and solution, and many literary devices. The students also learn a little bit about the history of our country because it is set in the late 1800s.

We will read the book together during our zoom classes and have discussions about the reading. I use this book every year and the students absolutely love it! It really keeps them all engaged. My hope is that it will have the same effect this year, even though we are online. By putting actual books in the students' hands, I hope to get the students' eyes off the screen for part of our class. I also want those who have never read a book cover to cover to have that feeling of satisfaction and accomplishment that comes with doing so.

Thank you for making all of this possible for my students!”

  • Maximizing Learning through Flexible Seating!

    Funded Sep 23, 2019

My students are thoroughly enjoying and benefitting from the flexible seating options you have helped provide! Students who have a hard time sitting still are able to use a balance ball, wiggle seats, or wiggle stool to engage their core which then helps them focus on the task at hand. The stools work in a similar fashion. Not only does it help with students who need to engage their core to but it allows them to have choices for seating instead of having to stay in one place all day. They have the ability to be closer to the board or work independently if needed. This also gives them a chance to move and not be stationary most of the day. Thank you for providing these opportunities to my students as it helps them focus and be more successful in school!”

  • Flexible Seating for All!

    Funded Jul 18, 2019

Thank you so much for funding my classroom project! The students are using the Seat Sacks all day, every day to store their materials. Without the Seat Sacks, they wouldn't have anywhere to keep their binders, pencil pouches, and library books. Using the Seat Sacks allows us to have flexible seating options and flower shaped tables in the room so that students can work easily in groups. I was able to get rid of my traditional desks and provide different types of seating. The students are benefitting from the new tables and flexible seating. And, they LOVE it!”

  • Robotics and Coding with LEGO Education

    Funded May 9, 2018

Through your generous donations, my students are able to learn about Robotics and Engineering. These skills are important in this day and age of electronics. Engineering is one of our new Science standards. These kits have enabled me to give my students exposure to these areas through fun, hands-on lessons and experiments. The use of these kits has ignited an interest in Robotics and Engineering in many of my students which will propel them to seek out these types of classes in the future. Even if they don't pursue one of these areas, they will have had valuable experience in them.”

  • Taking Financial Literacy to Another Level Part 2!

    Funded Apr 22, 2019

Thank you for your support of my students. They are enjoying learning about financial literacy which is a real life skill they will need to be successful in their futures. The items you helped us get will further that learning by allowing them to make their own products which they can then sell as a fundraiser for a trip to AstroCamp. They will learn how to price items to sell as well as budget for the items we still need to buy. They will figure out how much profit they will make and how many items they need to sell to earn enough money for the trip. These are all important life lessons! Thank you for giving me the ability to teach my students these lessons!”

  • Taking Financial Literacy to Another Level!

    Funded Jan 26, 2019

Thank you for your kindness is donating to my classroom. My students have been working hard coming up with ideas for items that they can make and then sell as a fundraiser for their trip. Doing this is deepening their learning of financial literacy in that they are setting a budget and making other monetary decisions necessary for selling the items they are going to make. In addition, these items have helped me decorate my classroom in such a way as to inspire my students and encourage their interest in learning. These items will not only benefit this year's class but all of my future classes for years to come.”

  • Financial Literacy Lessons

    Funded Dec 13, 2018

Thank you for your generosity in donating materials to my students! These books will be mainly used to help teach them about financial literacy which is a crucial life skill. Besides being used for those lessons, the books can also be used for teaching core literature (reading a whole book while discussing it and learning from it instead of selections like we have in our reading program). As a class we will read sections from the books that go along with lessons from Take Charge America, a non-profit organization that provides financial education. After reading the section in the books, students will participate in a lesson about financial literacy. Using these specific books, the students will learn about production and trade, government goods and services, saving and creating a personal budget, and being wise shoppers. Thank you for helping provide these essential life lessons to my students!”

We are in a large school district that has been severely hit by budget cuts. We have very few supplies and there is definitely no money to be spent on updating, fixing, or getting new technology in the classrooms. Most of my students come from homes where they don't have computers because they can't afford them. They are 5th graders who will be going to middle school next year and will be expected to know how to do research on the Internet, use word processing programs to write papers, and create presentations using technology. I want to provide them with the opportunity to learn how to do these things. The class is very enthusiastic and sweet. They enjoy being active learners and are excited at the prospect of learning how to use technology.
