In order to survive in this technology-driven world, my students need the opportunity to learn and grow their skills. It is critically important that students are given the opportunity to learn how technology amplifies their learning in all of their courses. My goal as an English/Language Arts teacher is to teach my students how to use technology for the purpose of gathering, analyzing, and presenting information in a variety of formats. Having Chromebooks will allow my students to take full advantage of online programs and curricula which will aid in teaching them the skills necessary to effectively communicate - through gathering, analyzing, and presenting information - outside of our four walls. My students have been immersed in English/Language Arts standards which have only been enhanced by the inclusion of technology. Through Google's Applied Digital Skills curriculum, my students have learned about fake news and how to avoid it, they have learned how to do HTML coding to send messages in their online documents amongst other things. Having the Chromebooks in the classroom will open so many more doors for them. I'm excited for them to learn skills in 7th grade that I didn't learn until I became an adult. I'm hopeful this will give them a leg up in a competitive world that is ever-changing.
