  • Collaborating with Chromebooks!

    Funded Jan 10, 2017

I am truly grateful for your donations! My class has completed more projects in a timely manner. I assign work to my third grade students using Google Classrooms. Thanks to you and the Chromebooks your donation helped purchase, they have more time to work on their assignments. They also share Google docs among their groups and they are able to collaborate with classmates.

Having technology in our class has made a huge impact in our daily routines and learning. My students are excited to share documents with each other and are learning how to use online resources in their research. A few of my students have said, "We're like college students." They are proud to work with technology to learn and teach others.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Reyes

  • Creative Minds

    Funded Dec 11, 2015

I am truly grateful to you for providing wonderful resources to my students. My students were all thrilled when they saw me carrying a package to class and anticipated the revealing of its contents. They were so happy to see their new markers, recorders, modeling clay, and pipe cleaners. They were specially excited to start using them.

Since my students were so eager to get their hands on these new materials, I passed out the markers right away and they began to use them that day as they wrote on their boards to solve math problems. After going over some music expectations they also each received their recorder the following day, and we began to learn notes. Some found it challenging at first, but they all persevered and they can now play four songs and are looking forward to learning more. Once we began to look at animal life cycles they used the modeling clay to demonstrate the different stages of an animal cycle and we used the extra clay for a gift to their parents.

I am filled with joy and enthusiasm when I see my students thriving and feeling a sense of urgency and pride in what they are accomplishing. We are now preparing to soon present a small recital for their parents and other classrooms.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Reyes

  • Going Google With Chromebooks

    Funded Aug 23, 2015

I am grateful for your generosity and interest in education. Technology plays a big role in our daily lives and my students now have the opportunity to enhance their learning by using the Chromebooks you helped bring to our class.

My students use the Chromebooks on a daily basis throughout the day. They are used during our Language Arts time for reading comprehension quizzes, for listening to stories in websites such as Tumblebooks.com and Raz-Kids.com, and for working with spelling and phonemic awareness skills in SpellingCity.com. They are also used during our Math time to practice math facts and to apply math solving strategies I have taught them to work on their assignments in TenMarks.com. Lastly, the Chromebooks have recently been used during our Writer's Workshop time as students log into their Google accounts and create books.

My students have been excited to use these Chromebooks because they are easy to manage and to transfer around the room as they choose "good spots" to work. Many of them have warmed to the Chromebooks by taking ownership and being responsible for their new learning tools. My students have shown significant progress in Language Arts and Math from the beginning of the school year and I am sure these Chromebooks have made an impact in their growth.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Reyes

  • Together is Better!

    Funded Oct 24, 2014

Thank you! We were ecstatic to see all the new tools we would be able to use to enhance our teamwork. My students are continuing to work collaboratively in physical education, have learned how to play the recorders and are beginning to work in Literature Circles.

Since we received our comet balls, hula hoops, and mats, my students are eager to participate in physical education and have even began creating new team games themselves. The mats have helped us with our warm-ups and team building. The hula hoops have been used for various exercises from musical hula hoops to dribbling around them. Most of all, my students are excited to use the comet balls. Using them has helped in their hand eye coordination and helped with their aiming skills.

When we began using the recorders my students were hyperactive and lacked discipline, but since we have been using them they have learned to control themselves and have helped each other practice and feel a sense of camaraderie as they play in unison. It has been a joy to see their progress and their enthusiasm to learn new songs.

The charts were used in all areas and particularly in teaching them about the jobs they will each have in their Literature Circles. They have since been using the comfy pillows to meet in various gathering places around the classroom and when they read independently. They love taking a book and reading it comfortably.

All these materials have truly enhance my students learning and motivation to come to school to learn. Words cannot express how grateful I am. Thank you for your generosity! You have changed our classroom moral and social interaction.”

  • Open My Eyes, Skype!

    Funded May 9, 2012

"Wow!" That's what my students said as their smiling faces saw our classroom iPods for the first time. They were flabbergasted and amazed at what you had given them. I heard students say, "I'm so happy!", "I can't wait to use them", and "This is the best!".

My students are using these iPods on a daily basis in all academic areas. They are using them as they use various apps to listen to stories being read aloud to them, to write stories, and to practice math facts. Having these resources has helped tremendously in our classroom, students are being able to open their eyes to "other worlds", as one of my students said. Now that we have partnered with a school in China. My students are anticipating meeting them through Skype.

My students are enthusiastic to use these iPods and look forward everyday to learn or create something new, be it a story of their own or listen to someone else tell theirs. I am able to keep track of learning myself through apps that allow me to monitor student progress in reading and math and most importantly I have seen their enthusiasm for learning grow. Thank you for your support!”

Thank you very much for your contribution to our classroom. The IPads you helped to place in my students' hands have made a tremendous difference in our learning and explorations. We are also in the process of beginning to meet new teachers and students across our country through Skype. • I Created This!

    Funded Jan 27, 2012

Thank you for your support and contribution to fund our project. My students have been enthusiastic to create various projects with the materials you helped us to acquire. In First grade, students need to have the opportunity to learn in a fun and engaging manner and you have given them that chance. They enjoy creating art projects and having visuals to obtain new information. The supplies such as sentence strips, scissors, chart paper, glue sticks, markers, and laminating pouches have been used on a daily basis to enhance their learning.

I can't thank you enough for giving my students the chance to learn and create projects with necessary classroom materials that we can no longer afford due to the drastic budget cuts in our schools. People like you have made a difference!”

My twenty-four fourth grade students are very motivated to become better readers and writers. They have a growth mind set and are eager to learn. They come to school ready to learn and be great citizens in our school community. They have learned that an "I Can't" attitude is not accepted and they must try strategies taught to them to help them succeed. Throughout the day they go above and beyond what is expected of them and they feel pride in their work. They enjoy listening to stories read aloud to them, reading with someone, doing science projects, creating art pieces, playing sports, and working on-line. My students are English Learners and come from homes where English is their second language. We are located in a small city south-east of Los Angeles, California. Our community is predominantly working class and English is a second language to many.
