Without exception, all the students at this Title 1 school, approximately 350 children, receive free lunch. It is situated in an industrial area of California. The school’s financial resources are severely limited by the large amount of public housing in the area and relatively low amount of tax revenue garnered from property tax. Many families are living near the poverty line and therefore lack the resources to purchase new computers for their homes. My students are bright, inquisitive, and thirsty for knowledge. They are eager to learn and would benefit immensely from an increased opportunity to better navigate their world through online research and general computer/technological savvy.
